Retrofit autodim mirror

I have a 2006 E90 320d with a manual dimming rear view mirror.
This was built for the Australian market.
I do not have an alarm, homelink, or rather silly compass.

I have seen the DIY for retrofitting the homelink mirror, but not for just an autodimming / electrochromatic / however you want to describe it mirror.

Can someone point me in the direction of a guide for that.
In particular, what part number for the actual mirror?
This page lists a bewildering array of interior mirror options:

http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E9...terior_mirror/
(What the heck is "Interior toll mirror for Japan"?)

which wiring harness do I need: 51167118714?

Any help appreciated!!

It looks like the part number for an auto-dimming mirror without Homelink is 51169134440 according to realoem.

The part# you posted is for an auto-dimming ETC mirror which is what you are looking for i assume.

I retrofitted the homelink and auto-dimming mirror and used a cable harness which looks to be part number 61 12 0 434 330 and I am quite sure you will need it for the retrofit to power the auto-dimming function and toll collection thingy.

What exactly is "electronic toll collection"? I don't think it's an option in the states.

"Homelink" is the garage door, home interior light option (3 buttons) on the mirror. Homelink is the name of the system that allows the mirror remote to control lights in your house from the mirror, as well as the garage door opener.

There are people who sell mirrors on e90post occasionally but I highly doubt any of them have electronic toll collection. I would check out realoem.com and plug in that part number to see how much it would cost and then contact them to see if they carry it.

Just to clarify, I don't need/want electronic toll collection.
I only want the auto dim feature, but all the mirrors I see on various BMW parts lists include other features like the alarm LED, homelink, etc etc.

I know these mirrors exist, I've driven a few loan cars that had autodim without any other buttons/lights etc.

Any help appreciated....

Oh, I see. So most US-spec cars come with the Alarm LED as part of the alarm prewire but I think they discontinued the prewire as of 2009. Usually, if the mirror has auto-dim, it will have either homelink and/or the compass built in. I have not seen a mirror with only autodim and without these other features.

If it's a good deal, it doesn't hurt to have these extra features.

I've got one like that available. It's AutoDim without the Homelink Buttons. Does have the Low Profile Red Clown Nose. Can send pics if interested. PM me with your e-mail address for details.
