hmm...thought they were going to go with a modified n55. Awesome if they stick with the n54. A whole slew of potential M division engine parts.

It was rumored this was going to happen, then supposedly they scraped it but now its on again...I am not surprised at this since I think the main reason why the N55 was introduced so fast was the fact that the M series did not sell very well especially since the 335 has so much power...Now I am sure the new M3 with the N54 will be just as powerful as my car now, well probably a drop less!! but obviously with upgraded M suspension...

I really hope it will have a modified air intake which we could transfer to our regular 335i cars...and a larger intercooler which we could swap too
PS: It will also only come with manual transmission. Old school pureness

I'd love to find out which parts will be swappable with the 335i, even if it requires some modification.
I wonder if they put bigger turbos on that thing too, although I highly doubt it...

Maybe the 1M LSD doesn't require modification of the driveshaft and half shafts when put in a 335i like the M3 LSD does ? Let me dream

It's just going to have a JB3 or Proceed pre-installed.

Sounds quite good. Frankly, I think the 1er is a better car for my city living situation than is the 3er, so I'm looking forward to this car's arrival.

I'm not sure the N54 grape sized turbos will be able to handle the kind of boost/power the M3 will be looking to put out. Hense, I have a hard time believing the M3 will be using the N54. Perhaps bigger turbos?

Some knowledgeable guy with the nickname Scott26 said the reason N54 was used in the 1M is Valvetronic problems they were having with the N55 and the short development time frame. But those problems were solved and the next M3 will use an N55 variation (S55 ?) with Valvetronic and twin-turbo setup.

The next generation M3 will be a variation of the N55.
The N54 is a great engine but it not the future of BMW. If I had to guess, rather than start from scratch on a new engine, the F30 M3 will use an N55 that incorporates a ton of new cooling and strengthened internals. Perhaps even a bore to 3.2 liter? It will certainly be much, much more than a N55 + a tune, I would bet the farm on that. It's going to have to be a good 450hp with a LOT more torque otherwise people are going to start scratching their heads why they're paying $70k for a car that struggles to keep up with a $29k Mustang GT. |

cstavaru, don't you already get that and more from your PROCede N54 car? Not linear enough for ya? And you get a bit more power than that at the crank for sure no? If Shiv can do this on a stock motor, I'd bet BMW could do better if they wanted to on the same motor. They are the manufacture last I heard.
