Has anyone in Aus retrofitted an auto dim mirror?
Simple question really, if you have, can you tell me whether you needed to run a ground wire up the side column of the car?
I have a 2006 E90 320d, and it has a plain-old mirror, no alarm, no auto-dim. It has NO wires running to it at all, but I do have a rain sensor, so wires are right there nearby. Any help appreciated! |

My car has auto dimming rear vision mirror, but it dosen't work very well.
I have 35% tinting on my car. When a car comes up behind me the mirror goes dark and its very hard to see anything in the mirror, possibly due to the tint. I fixed it by putting a small sticker over the light sensor, which effectively disables the feature. |

Mine works fine at night (no tint) but when the sun is setting behind it doesn't dip, and there are times when I'd like to un-dip it. Probably the least useful bit of tech in my car.

I retrofitted one to an e46. I think i tapped off the interior light power if my memory serves me right, it was ages ago. You may even find that bmw run all the wires up close to the mirror and then depending on what option you have then determines which are run from the roof to the mirror.

I'm with John on this one, of all the tech on my car this has to be one of the least useful features. Although I do have a tint which might be why it's not so effective at night. Not sure what others have experienced but I find it more useful on wet nights as it seems to cut out a lot of the glare.

I have a standard tint on my car and HATE the autodim mirror.
It makes it impossible to make out the details of the car behind you in the evenings, which IMHO gives the boys in blue more opportunity to ping you
