Eagle Eyes LED Tail Light Errors

Just got EE LED tail lights from JLevi for my 2009 335i. Install went great, but having some strange results.

1) When turning the car on I see the LED lights "micro-pulsing" about 5-10 times each.

2) In addition to the 1), I get rear turn bulb errors on the screens, 1 for each rear tail light. Then after I use each turn signal or hit the hazzard button the errors disappear until the next time I start up the car.

3) When using the turn signal (in 2)), they blink rapidly for about 3 seconds and then blink at a normal rate. After that the turn signals work normal and the error messages disappear, until the next time I start up the car.

Curious fact: JLevi included some black box resistor ballasts to connect to the lights. If I do not connect the ballast to the left light, the error message does not away after doing turn signal and the turn signal flashes rapidly as if there was circuit; however, for the right side tail light, it is the complete opposite. I needed to take the ballast out in order to work right and eliminate the error. If I left it in, it did the same error as in the left light when I took the ballast off.

Has any one had any results like this?

Hey there,

This is very odd given that your car is a 2009 and should be the LCI model. If this is true, then I am not sure how you retrofitted our LED Tails as we only carry them for the pre-LCI e90s.

It's possible you can code your car to accept LED taillights.

Hi Nick, mine's 09 April production, so still pre-LCI. Cal was my salesperson. It is very frustrating as I had purchased a set of full LED Depos Euro Spec from France and had errors, so I tried your failsafe ballasts, and still had errors, so then I bought these EEs from you thinking no more errors, but now I have these issues again.

Don't know what else to do.

Yes, that's the ultimate plan B. I just don't understand why my car does that and other cars don't with the same lights. Its kinda frustrating.

The flickering at start up is just the bulbcheck pulses sent out which only become noticeable when using LEDs. I just noticed that my reverse LEDs also flicker at start up. These do not throw an error message on the screen though.

have it coded. I installed LED front turn and rear turn LED bulbs from F1 autohaus and then had it coded. No flickering, no errors, no need for load resistors, the way to go IMHO

I tried the reverse LED's - very disappointed

Not only did they flicker upon startup (which I knew was gonna happen) but they are not even close to being as bright as the factory backup bulbs (installed only one side 1st to do a comparo)

I took them out, put on shelf, tacked it up to a minor $$ mistake, and put the factory BU's back in...

My led reverse light bulbs are super bright. Where did you get your bulbs from?

OP, all LEDs strobe on start up...it's the bulb check system. LEDs use less power so they turn on with the pulses.

F1 Autohaus. I already had his interior LED's and was very happy with them - but the reverse just didn't do it...
