Split Breather Pipe & Main Dealer Pricing

Hi All,

I noticed the last couple of times I filled my E91 with Diesel that some leaked out.

Well it went in to Stratstone BMW in Derby this morning and they confirmed that the breather pipe has split.

The extended £40 a month 'comprehensive' warrenty that I took out through BMW doesn't cover fuel lines and the cost of the repair would be a tidy £584

I told them I couldn't afford it (true) and will collect the car later.

Then I decided to give 'German Automotive' in Derby a call who have quoted £263, and they have a little VW Polo I can use as a hire car while they do the work

Now, I'm not stating anything we didn't already know, despite the blurb that the main dealers put out that they aren't expensive and to 'Think Again' the fact remains that they are - LUDICROUSLY .

Anyway, this is the first time I've used German Automotvive so I'll report back how things pan out with them in that it might benefit anyone else in the Derby area.

Call BMW customer services to explain situation (ask for goodwill) and ask the dealership if they could file a 'goodwill' claim with BMW. They may be able to reduce the cost of the repair (repair will have to be done at the BMW dealership).

Good luck!

Why doesn't the warranty cover fuel lines? I'd be going apoplectic.

Surely the breather pipe isn't a 'fuel line'. As this is a known problem the warranty should cover??

I had this sorted on my E90 a year or so ago under warranty from a BMW dealer (under AUC warranty). Try another dealer...

...or don't fill your tank to the brim

9InchPianist,

I've used GA several times now.. they're always cheaper, always call when they say they will, always have the car back on time and above all, always treat you better that Stratstone.

I've told BMW GB several times now on their "phone the customer and check we're doing a good job" calls just how bad Stratstone are. I don't use them now out of principle, but then with GA providing such a good service, why would I?

I used them last month, full service and new disks/pads on the front. Can't complain on the price or service.

It does quite clearly state on BMW's Insured Warranty website that fuel lines aren't covered: http://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Pages/...ve/Details.htm

Anyhoo, as NathanJT said, German Automotive are excellent, I will definitely use them again £263 for the whole job, I got a VW Polo as a courtesy car for the day and more to the point, my breather pipe is no longer leaking.

On another note - the excess on my 'comprehensive' BMW warranty was £250, and I got the job done for £263 so......
