Aftermarket Warranty (another thread!!!)
Yes, I know, aftermarket warranties are discussed on here loads and there is usually no conclusive answer as to will they/wont they pay a claim but that's not really my question. Here's my story...
I've just applied to Warranty Direct to cover my motor (03 plate on 75k miles). There are loads to choose from in this market and there are horror stories attached to them all so just went for who I perceive to be the biggest plus wanted to get a good deal. So, for non-franchised dealer full 'secure-care' cover, they intially quoted me £46.20 p/m. The challenge was on. I eventually got this down to £28.33 p/m and 13 months for the price of 12. Pretty happy so far. So, just got the policy document, and noticed two things that weren't raised. Firstly, upon a claim in the first 6 months, they collect the balance of the first 6 months payments up front (or deduct from the claim). Spoke to them about this and fair enough I suppose as they adjust your direct debit so you still only pay 12 months in total. If I'd have paid a one off payment I'd not have noticed of course. But, here's my question, given my mileage, they will only cover 80% of the parts costs (still 100% of labour). This is a sliding scale, the higher your mileage the lower % they cover; can't really argue with this, BUT, does anyone know of any other company that would cover an '03' 3.0 litre car with 75k on the clock for 100% labour AND parts???

Personally I'd avoid WD like the plague, but once bitten and all that!
Have a look at CSMA, on the face of it it looks good but I can't vouch for it: http://www.csmaclub.co.uk/carshop/mo...es/carwarranty http://www.csmaclub.co.uk/pdf/CCP240...der10years.pdf http://www.csmaclub.co.uk/pdf/CCP110...-new-cover.pdf |

I had a completely cr4p time with WD on my Astra - gave up on a claim.
I'd only go manufacturers but having done the sums, just looking after our BM ad well as possible and hoping nothing too awful goes wrong. If it does, oh bu66er but we can afford to fix it. If nothing goes wrong, we save a fair bit of cash. I hate insurance and that's all aftermarket warranties are IMO. |

I would normally but not an option on this one I'm afraid. I'd not normally bother but having never owned a 7 year old car before (and one which, though has an immaculate service history, I not nothing about) I just thought it a wise gamble.
Need new front brakes & discs so am going to get the whole car checked over. There may be other gremlins found which 'may' be covered; might just cancel the cover if nowt wrong with the motor (it's started to make a few tell-tale rattles that's making me a little nervy). Would consider changing the car but the one I want would really stretch my budget (or rather would mean not clearing other debt) so not the wisest decision given the current climate. Have been offered a fantastic deal but still might bow out.

Roger - it's just not worth stretching yourself for a car IMO. It is after all, just a car.
Just look after it as best you can and hope for the best - I have a feeling a warranty for your BM will be scarily priced. IMO they wriggle out of everything they can. Manufacturers warrantys are there to help sell cars - so they make them as comprehensive as possible. Insured warranties are there to make money using "fear" to entice people. I'd just risk it. |
