Comfort access?

What is comfort access? Im about to buy a 07 335i and the seller made a big deal about it having comfort access. What does this option include? Also in 07 if it has the sport package does that include the oil cooler?

CA is the feature where you can unlock the car, turn it on, and lock it back up without taking the key out of your pocket. And I don't think it did.

You definitely want the comfort access

As for the OC, if its manual and has sport package, it will have the cooler. If its auto, it is likely it will not.

This is all correct except the part in red - the fob doesn't have a rechargeable battery with CA - you just replace the battery once it wears out. I hear about every 2 years or so. The non-CA car fobs do recharge in the ignition though.

It's nice to have CA but it shouldn't be a deal breaker.
Might as well throw this in there since it's always asked.............no you cannot realistically retrofit comfort access.

I have CA and thought that you recharge it via ignition too. Stand corrected now. Since I don't have a manual, can you tell me how do you know when the battery is running low? Is it possible that my battery dies one day and I will be unable to start the car? Or does putting in the ignition work even if/when the battery dies?

This is a question I'm not too sure about as my fob has not died yet in 2.5 years (how's that for a jinx!). My assumption is that you'll start to notice that the range of the fob is decreasing (which I think may be happening with mine right now) and at some point you won't be able to unlock or start the car with it and you'll have to revert to the key inside the fob. I'm also assuming that even if your fob is dead, you'll still be able to start the car by plugging it in to the ignition. I'm sure someone with experience can chime in here and help us out...

You will get an icon on your dash that will let you know that your battery is running low.

If the battery does go completely dead you can take out the metal key un-lock your doors and put the fob in the ignition slot and start up.

CA doesnt change what the buttons on the key fob do.
it just makes it so you dont ever need to use them.

Mine just started to get low on range - I noticed it most because I have the smartop module, so I hold down my unlock button from fairly far away to start opening the roof (and I have to hold it for a few seconds, so it probably uses a fair bit of juice each time I do it) coming up on 3 yrs old in November, so was probably time. It is a very common battery, autozone had it for 3 bucks!

I agree 100%. I have one with it, one without it. In the one without it, I always end up putting my key in the slot anyway just for a place ot put it without forgetting to take it with me. I don't like stuff in my pockets when I drive
