While I applaud the effort, this is a very dangerous practice. Raw chicken/salmonella or beef/e.coli juice could be in the bottoms of these bags. Yes, those bags are good for other items, but with meats/eggs etc, just use the ones in the store.

Good for you. Problem is most of the time people don't. I was a bagger in high school and the majority of people who would hand me those bags to use would have giant brown stains in the bottom of them (Their clothing would suggest they never used a washing machine as well, but I digress). It would always make me cringe.

Yeah it bothers me. Humans are shitting all over this planet. I try not to think too much about it since there is almost nothing I can do that would make a worthwhile amount of change. Hopefully after I become successful I can do something about these problems.
I wish an organization similar to the UN was the world's government. Each country would elect their most able person for the job, and I'm not talking about a fucking idiot politician like the ones we have today in our country, who are motivated by their own selfish agendas and greed. But rather a person who is forward thinking and wants to future proof the planet. Ok I am sort of off topic now, but I have been wanting to say this for a while. First we'd need a worldwide legal system, a fully revamped one, our current legal system is trash; where people shouldn't have to be afraid of legal consequences from defending themselves or their home (criminals have more rights than the victims these days), people who grow weed aren't in jail longer than women who murder their husbands, and where the laws are so much in favor of women. We'd also have to get rid of all of the scum on this planet, like most of the people in prisons, those African rebels who go through villages raping and pillaging, and the whackos in the Middle East, etc. I suppose getting rid of the nonsense that is religion would help this as well, but it is not necessary. As long as all the extremists and violent ones can be removed. Genetic cleansing would greatly help, so many fucking ignorant idiots in the southern states that don't deserve to breathe our air. If countries could put their differences aside, and I'm not saying to forget their history or culture, and realize that we shouldn't divide ourselves when we really should be uniting, putting the brightest minds together to solve our current problems: pollution, energy, famine, diseases, etc, then the world would be a million fucking times better, and also figuring out how to start using the Moon to our advantage (they have already figured out how to put solar panels on the moon and beam the energy back to Earth). And eventually start more seriously exploring space...we must do this to ensure a future for humans. Unfortunately, I highly doubt I will live to see a utopian Earth like this. It would take some sort of attack (whether that be an alien or asteroid) that could potentially wipe out all of Earth to unite our countries. That's my rant for now. |

I have windmills and solar panels at home for electricity
I also use the re-usable bags, despite I always walk in with 1 thinking "I'm only going to buy cereal" and I walk out with so much shit that I end up having plastic bags on top.. I recycle and try not to be wasteful

I try to be green, but only when it doesn't cost me more, make it more inconvenient for me, or require me to change my life style.
For example. I will use paper vs plastic, but not buy a reusable shopping bag, because that cost me money and I have to remember it before I head out. I will use paper plates vs Styrofoam but I will not use dishes, because I have to wash them. I will use an electric mower but will not drive an electric car because it's inconvenient and will not drive a hybrid because that's fucking with my life style and it cost more for less. I would consider diesel tho. |

in Montreal, certain places actually now charge you for plastic bags. plates, I don't see a problem with washing them. We have water treatment plants. I'd buy the Tesla roadster if they were available in my part of the world! I can barely think of a way that going green is inconvenient except for cars. (I likes my 335)

honestly, i only care about the environment if it can lower my electric bill. otherwise, i have driven utterly fuel inefficient cars my entire driving career, love my air conditioning at 70 on a 100 degree day, fly planes, and jump out of them, too. the last two consume plenty of fuel. i suppose my carbon footprint is bigfoot size.

Very sad, some of the opinions out there. Humans have advanced to the point that we can destroy all life on earth. At the same time, many among us don't comprehend that it's happening right now, or don't care. Our need for short term gain is a seemingly uncontrollable monster.

And I thought I was crazy to think I wouldn't find like-minded people on this board...

ps: yes I understood your point.. I just changed the focus a bit. Quote:
You took my exact sentiments and worded it perfectly. I hope one day we will both make a difference, however small it may be, to this place we call earth. I too agree that our society's political, legal and economic system will break down somewhere in the future, only to be replaced by a bigger and better world-governing body. A new world order is in store for us... Ok, sorry for the off-topic. I try my best to recycle, not litter and to use enviro-friendly products. Also, raising awareness and inspiring others to make a difference to mother nature only takes a few seconds of discussion.. so I don't only limit myself in just acting environmentally-conscious. Oh and I want to visit Antarctica before it all melts. haha Last edited by woosh; 09-15-2010 at 09:41 AM.. |

I was driving in my F-250 diesel the other day and came up on this prius with hippie and tree hugger stickers all over the back of it. I pulled up next to him and noticed his window was down, I then punched the throttle and watched his car fill with thick black smoke in my rear view mirror... He sure was pissed but couldn't catch up to me because...well...he was driving a stupid prius. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and just thought I would share.

You know... I say I care about the environment, but I don't really catch myself doing anything "green" these days.
As my friend Kermit said, "It ain't easy being green" |
