Bilsteins vs KW vs H&R
I just started into "track days" (read been to an autocross once lol)on my 335 and already see the need for something better. I have years of racing in me but all off road in the desert in trucks (hey we actually won a lot!).
I know enough to re weld the steering components further forward on the housing to change the steering head angle and thus lighter (read squirrly) front end (rotating forward) etc..or the other way to slow it down... but I dont want to go that extreme on my Bimmer. I'm looking to get a coil over setup that will work after I actually know what I'm doing as this is the first road car Ive played with. Which one can you guys, the experts, recommend? I want something that I can adjust everything on, not just the preload but the damping and maybe even the directional damping. Ive seen the KW V3 and H&R and Bilsteins. I think the Bilsteins are the least adjustable but I dont know what Im doing here yet. Opinions? Thanks |

I would suggest the KW V3 as you can adjust your dampening and rebound as it is comfortable enough to track your car and drive on the street with the correct settings.
There are the 3 way adjustable( rebound + low speed compression + high-speed compression) and 4 way adjustable coilovers( low speed compression + high speed compression + low speed rebound + high speed rebound) from MOTON but they are expensive and really not neccessary unless you race competitively or are an extreme track junkie. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions as I can get you pricing for the KWs. |

I really recommend the Road and Track coilovers by Ohlins. This is easily the best kit available for the money.
Ohlins built this kit for the consumer who daily drives their car, but enjoys the occasionally track day. Both the compression and rebound is are adjustable via one knob, creating the perfect ratio of compression and rebound every time you adjust it. Here's a link to the website to give you some more detailed information on the technology behind Ohlins DFV. http://www.roadandtrackbyohlins.com/en/the-technology/ We stock these so let me know if you have any questions. Then you know how much of a great quality product Ohlins manufactures. Their street application suspension is just as good or can i even say, better?

If you're going for a more track oriented setup, KW does make the KW Clubsport applications for the E90 335i. If you have a coupe I would recommend that you check out the KW V3 which will give you the ability to adjust the height of your vehicle as well as both rebound and compression damping. I'll shoot you over a PM with more details ! Last edited by ModBargains.com; 09-16-2010 at 03:03 PM.. |
