EMERGENCY Help with CDV removal!!

So i replaced the CDV with an aftermarket one and had some fluid come out. I pressed the clutch and it won't come back up. I guess I have to bleed the clutch? how the hell do I do that? So frustrated with this, can't find where and how to bleed it.

Its really a two person process unless u buy a vacuum pump from a autozone or other parts place. There is a diy in the diy area.

I tried the diy but I can't located the bleeding reservoir and etc. and don't know how to do it. I have a friend with me. Anyone know a detailed link? I've looked at like 5 different ones and can't figure it out. pics aren't clear enough. When I depress my clutch, it will not come back up.

I did the CDV change and didn't read the part to clamp the hose in the DIY. I lost a bit of fluid and now even after bleeding about 5 times of opening bleeding, pushing down clutch, close bleeder, pulling back on clutch, my clutch pedal is still limp and it will stay to the floor when I push it down. Please help. PM me.

Make sure you are filling the passenger side of the hydrolic fluid reservoir! That is where the clutch draws from. Push down and physically (with your hand) pull up the clutch pedal. Basically pump up the system. Then you should get some pressure back in the pedal if your reservoir is full.

Even though the reservoir looks full, it is partitioned and needs to be topped out.

Same thing happened to me, just fill it up all the way and pump away until it get hard. Then keep the pedal pressed and open valve to bleed.

Repeat the process a few more times.

OP, this happened to me. It was horrible because I had never bled a clutch before. Get a power bleeder (like the one made by Motive), if you were close I would give you mine. Good luck, you definitely need two people and some patience.

So do I pump the clutch with the valve closed? then open it after a few pumps?

has anyone tried the oil can trick? connecting an oil can full of brake fluid into the bleed valve and pumping the air back up to the reservoir?

First, you have to keep the brake fluid reservoir completely full as there is a baffle separating the sections. If you let it drop more a little bit it will just siphon off that back section which is difficult to see.

If you want to try the tube and cup method, it would work but will be hard. One full swing of the clutch pedal drains nearly half the fluid in that read section of the reservoir.

As for the first part, valve open, push clutch in. Then close the valve for the upstroke.

solution

I used the oil can push technique meaning instead of pulling the fluid from the bottom I pushed the fluid from the bottom. This gets rid of the the air in the system.

There is a great video that explains how the bmw clutch works and why you should push the fluid.

Put small tube on fitting to container. (glass jar works great.. you can see bubbles)
1. Person in car step on clutch.
2. Crack open valve.
3. Close valve when fluid / bubbles stop.
4. Let up on clutch pedal.
5. Check reservoir and refill if necessary.
6. Repeat until pedal is hard and no bubbles.

Very easy with second person and no special tools required.
