WTF....auto insurance

My auto insurance premium went up 50% ($1050 to $1570), clean record for 10+ years, same policy...etc.
I don't understand Massachusettes, insurance always increases

and why the F$%# Geico and Allstate advertise on Local TV when they dont even offer insurance in our state...retards

so whats everyone paying for their autos?

i have plymouth rock assurance and i pay about 1300 a year. i think those geico and allstate advertisements are national ads, but i do agree with you that the MA. insurance laws are a F-ing scam.

Paying slightly less than $1,100 in DC metro area, full coverage, high limits, rental car etc. Clean record, I'm 31, wife is 29, no kids. This is with Geico, no premium hike expected.

Paying about $1500....pretty clean record...43...three kids. Hoping it'll be less when we head to Newport. ...doesn't soundlike it though.

I just called Amica yesterday and they quoted me a $990 additional premium to add the new 335i Coupe to my existing policy. That figure includes multi-vehicle and multi-line (homeowner's with them also) discounts and is pre-dividend, meaning I should see $198 of it returned at the end of the renewal period.

I didn't think that was too bad, considering R.I. rates aren't much different than Mass. (40 y/o, clean record, married, kids)

One thing that could explain a sudden swing is that some insurers are now factoring in your credit score when they rate you.

Still in Germany. Heading there in a few months for a year. We move too much in the military. I'll have four moves in five years time.

You said $1500 is cheap? ....now you're making me worry.

Paying $720/yr on the 330xi with Allstate... been going up about $5 every six months... no claims, very decent limits for TN. Have home coverage with them.

Just had a $100/yr increase on the 03 Honda Ody... time to get an X5!

Seriously look at switching... I used to use Progressive and loved it. I switched when Allstate made an offer I couldn't refuse. I would go back to Progressive if Allstate ever screws up.

Switching won't really get you too far in Mass. Insurance rates are set by the state, it's not a competitive system, like it is in most states. You can get some discounts, usually by bundling other types of insurance with the same company.

In Massachusetts(and not pricipally garaged in a high risk town); 328XI Coupe, Part 7 (collision-500.00 deductable); 655.00, Part 9 (comprehensive-500.00 deductable); 206.00. Part 10; Substitute Transportation (which I probably don't need); 70.00. Safe Driver Credit; 69.00. 25% Air Bag Discount applied. TOTAL $1229.00
When I called the insurance company (Metropolitan) and inquired about a discount for the 'Vehicle Recovery System' which I have as part of the Premium Package for the next four years, I was told that 'Lojack' is the only Vehicle Recovery System which qualifies for a discount because BMW's plan is considered to be a 'pay as you go' type of deal which can be terminated- unlike Lojack where once its installed, you have the thing for as long as you own the car.

I got a LoJack to grab that discount. The discount isn't huge, but it's enough to pay for the LoJack. I wouldn't have bothered if this was a lease, though.

Hate to be the one to break this to you, but if your car has BMW Assist, you wasted the LoJack money. Assist has the same capability, and you get the same discount.

Man, I am glad I will only be in Mass for a year or so once I get the car.... this is one of the worst states for cars. My wife is fron Jersey, and it is amazing how the insurance here is even worse than NJ (and they have one of the worst auto insurance situations).

It is all because of the over-regulation of the auto insurance. They pander to the lowest common denominator driver, and thus is hurts the average and good drivers.

Yep. I live over it. I saw a poster for the opening of the Greenway April 2005.... And I thought Jersey was bad. The auto insurance is like the power companies in California a few years ago - the laws stifle the big companies.

If you want to see funny, check out the gun laws in MA. I don't have any guns here because of the graft. It is ridiculous. You have to import the weapon using a gun dealer. You cannot buy certain guns new, but you can buy them used. ETc, etc, etc...
