Hi folks,

I am in need of a good chemical that I can treat all rubber seals on my car, especially the ones that are exposed to sunlight. I am looking for max UV protection.

black magic is basically a real thick liquid silicone. It works really well on the rubber seals. You could also pick up a spray can of plain silicone spray, that works really well too.

Just offering a word of caution from recent experience I've had with 303 Aerospace and the interior rubber door seals on my sedan -

After a full car wash two weekends ago I was taking care of the door jambs and after everything was clean I sprayed 303 onto a MF towel and wiped all the rubber door seals with it (definitely not saturated by any means) and ever since then I've had an awfully annoying squeaking sound coming from all four doors over broken pavement and uneven surfaces where the body of the car would flex ever so slightly (think pulling into a sloped driveway at an angle). I never had a problem with any sort of squeakiness and it started the very night I washed and treated the rubber seals so it must've been the cause.

At the suggestion of "Detailed Image" (George maybe?) in the "Ask A Professional Detailer" thread, I wiped down all rubber seals with a damp MF towel and buffed all rubber and contact areas with a dry MF towel. This hasn't fixed the noise, maybe just decreased it slightly.

I'm going to attempt to use something that will cut through any sort of protectant that's left on the rubber and make it less slick if possible (degreaser/citrus/APC/diswashing soap?). My car only has 5,000 miles on it so I'm sure the rubber didn't need treating but I thought it would at least look good. UGH

Good luck with the exterior rubber though. I've never heard of anyone having the issue I do so I could be alone here. 303 works great on every other surface I've used it on.

squeeking seals area common problem, if you search you will find a lot of info on it. The reason it started in the first place is because you cleaned your seals and got rid of whatever silicone/dirt that was on the seals that prevented the problem. It didnt come from the 303. 303 and a few other products are whats recommended to apply once the squeeking starts (its also recommended to seal the door jamb areas and any place where trhe rubber makes contact). It doesnt mean the squeeking will go away completely..they used to apply a silicone at the dealer to help with the issue(not anymore since it damages the seals long term). Sometimes they replace the seals but that doesnt solve the problem, it can happend again.

currently have the same problem
I used fantastic, orange cleaner/degreaser

even GUN DEGREASERS which i use to bust through my armory
tried CARBON KILLER/ SLIP2000 and though it takes care of it, it comes right back a week later...WTH!??!

next up, dawn detergent to get rid of all the "stuff" and then apply something that is a teeny bit sticky (maple syrup? lmao) to keep that stuff from rubbing..

I only intend to use 303 Aerospace protectant on the non moving rubber strips around the windshield, rear window and the two strips running on the roof. Those are the ones that are exposed to the sun and I can already see them degrading... The rubber door seals are only going to be cleaned with a wash cloth and warm watter.

For the door seals use 1Z Gummi Pflege. Keeps the seals in great condition.

303 Aero is one of the most versatile products ever. pick some up if you havent already. its probably the product i use the most.

My father was an engineer for the aerospace industry and the car industry. A 3.00 can of silicone spray, and old rag and a little patience is all I have ever needed for doors seals on EVERY car I have owned for 20 years. I have NO squeaks in my 2008 E90 Sedan and I have NEVER had ANY kind of seal degeneration on ANY car using this method. I have owned cars for up to 8 years and the seals look and perform like they were from the factory.

Exactly this or if you need a specific product gummi pflege is great but pricey

I've always been told that silicon contracts as it dries thus causing cracks unless replenished regularly.

I use Vinylex for years and love it. It makes the car look new, not shiny, and protects from UV. I also spray down the plastic/rubber parts in the engine bay to prevent them from dry rotting. And its been working for 14 years now.

My squeeking seals started the day after I "treated" the seals (at 4,000 miles). The seals did not stop squeeking until I washed the seals with warm soapy water (at 8,000 miles)...
