New Hampshire Utility bills

Hey NE folks,

I'm relocating to NH very soon...PCS-ing....and found a potential place

Bay Ridge @ Nashua Apartments

But they don't cover utilities, so I'm wondering if any of you guys know what the price of gas/water/electric is...need a ballpark estimate.

Thanks in advance!

depends

Electric heat will not be a good idea =)

gas is what I'd imagine for heat or at least stove

water is normally 25 a month. +/-

Are you in Nashua for work?

Depends on the time of day you'll be driving (traffic) and how much you like to drive. I used my E90 for the first year I had it, and put 25k+ on it that year. I now have a company-provided DD as well so that sees most of the miles, I only drive the E90 on nice days.

Will you be commuting 5 days a week? If you're driving during rush hour, expect Rt. 3 to suck as you get closer to 128 (aka 95). Even though I really do enjoy driving, 125 miles bare minimum for me per day gets rough. I'm doing way more than that right now, and should be sufficiently tired of it by December when it ends.

Yah, 5 days a week, probably a 9-5 job, or 8-4...around there....From what i'm seeing on google maps, traffic is mostly green! Minor yellow spots here and there, lol what a traffic?!

When you say traffic, I'm thinking bumper to bumper, sitting and not moving for the next 30 minutes, avg speed of 1mph. Remember, i'm coming from NY rofl

Maybe not quite that bad then. But you will hit pockets coming down Rt. 3 toward Boston in the morning and heading away from the city in the afternoon. Probably better than what you're used to though.

I just checked GMaps, you're only doing 30 miles each way, not 60. So that's really not bad, you should be able to make that in about 45 minutes even with some traffic. With no traffic it should be 35 minutes or so. And Rt. 3 has a 55mph limit (which is a little stupid since it's a 3-4 lane relatively straight highway). The road essentially ends into a 1 lane on-ramp to the already overcrowded 128, so it'll almost certainly be faster getting off at Rt. 4 and staying as far away from 128 as possible.

haha i knew it, traffic isn't bad at all!

30 miles each way is if i choose to stay with Bay Ridge @ Nashua. But Manchester places look so nice though! Any recommendations?! A forum member here already got me some contacts with someone, just want to know if there are any "in between" places. For example, not necessarily IN nashua, but suburbs?

Derry is between Nashua and Manchester, but it's further east. And it's a can't-get-there-from-here place in my opinion. Derry to Hanscom would be a pain, I think. But it's something to consider. Nothing else around there really expect for some small towns.

Not sure what your budget is, but have you tried looking around in Westford or Chelmsford areas of MA? Lots of stuff in Waltham too. All three of these are probably more expensive areas compared to Nashua (since they're more suburbs of Boston, especially Waltham). Manchester, NH is a nice area in my opinion, and it would only add 10-15 miles to your commute. Might be worth it if the place is nicer.

Nah, def not MA. I choose NH because of Amendment #2. Like the State's motto: Live free or die!!!!!!

Is it bad to tack on miles on the 328? Lol sorry for such a stupid question, but being that this is my first non-jap car and something that resembles more true engineering than copying, I'm worried about the reliability. Granted, we dont have HPFP problems

Understand and agree with that. Can't fault your logic there. No issues with the 328, I have about 27k on it currently. Runs like a top, never misses a beat, and racks up the miles just fine.

When did you get it? Mine was CPO'd with 23k and I already tacked on 10k, now about 33K

March 2009. I've slowed down tacking on the miles on it since I got the company car. I only put about 2k on it all summer because I'm trying to balance out the miles a little bit.

Not really sure what it's like to live there, I go there for work occasionally and it seems nice enough. I'm more familiar with the Concord/Manchester/Portsmouth/Exeter/Dover areas. Manchester is probably a nicer area than Nashua, and it's definitely a much larger city with more activity (entertainment, etc). Between them, I would personally pick Manchester just because I know the area. But you'll probably get more for your money in Nashua.

The lady @ Coldwell Banker told me the same thing. Manchester = more bang for the buck, but further north.

I lived at Bay Ridge for a year.
For a 1br, you're looking at $1k/mo + $50-60/mo for a carport + $40-65/mo for electric + $10-20/mo for water/sewage.
It's definitely the nicest looking apartment complex in south Nashua and you get a lot of square footage for a 1br. The leasing office employees aren't the most friendly and the speed bumps suck real bad. South Nashua sucks on weekends and holidays because of tax-free shopping. I moved downtown within walking distance of work and I'm a lot happier.
The other popular apartment off exit 1 is Royal Crest. Cheaper but older and the complex is a pain to get in and out of.
PM if you want more details. I've been in Nashua for a year and a half now.
