Trasmission Fluid..Need help please....

As the title states..
I am in need of help towards which Transmission fluid to buy.

I am having a friend at a local BMW change out my Trans fluid but need to know where i can buy the fluid and which one would be best for my 07 E92 335.

All the help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I looked up fluid type in AllData and here is what I came up with:

GA6HP19Z

Type Shell M-1375.4

BMW Part No. 83 22 0 142 516

The transmission fluid has a Condition Based Service interval of approximately 100,000 miles; please refer to SI. B00 07 02 for further information. Never mix any other oil with this transmission fluid when doing repairs or topping up.

Shell M-1375.4 can found at the local Range Rover under part number LRN13754 for quart size.

This is what I did when I changed my transmission fluid:

Castrol Import Multi-vehicle trans fluid is also approved for use when needing Shell M-1375.4 fluid. See attached spec sheet in the link.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

There are several threads on here about this very same topic, I would suggest a search to find your answer.

What good does this post do?
Everyone is so quick to throw the Search button out there for newbies...
But this is a Transmission question...not too many newbies change out their own Trans fluid..? Do you?

You are quick to think that this topic has not been discussed in depth before, but it has, which is why I was telling you to search (search 1375.4). I have been involved in several threads on this forum with just this topic, trying to figure out what fluid to use, which is actually a direct replacement for the Shell M-1375.4 fluid, etc.

I was simply stating that there is really good information in some other threads that will answer your question if you just search around a little. They are all in the maintenance section IIRC.

And FWIW, no I have not changed the fluid in my 335, as I am only at 30k and I plan on waiting until about 40k miles to do it (probably won't change the filter at that time). I did however change the AT tranny fluid at 150k miles in my '94 530i, which had never been changed before, and shortly after the transmission failed. So I do have some vested interest in this to make sure my 335 does get regular AT fluid changes.

edit: I believe general consensus was, if you are going to change the AT fluid regularly, then the Shell M-1375.4 "equivalents" like Pentosin ATF-1 will probably be fine. However, if you are going to wait the lifetime of the fluid out (100k miles) or are in warranty, then probably stick with the Shell M-1375.4/Lifeguardfluid 6 AT fluid, which is about $45 a liter. I still haven't decided what I am going to use, but I am still leaning toward sticking with the OEM stuff.
