Info for dinan owners
Since I haqte BMW so much now thought I would post this tidbit. Bit of background - relationship between din an and BMW is not very good right now. BMW dealership that sold me a din an tune now refuses to honor any din an warranty. They also charged me $300 to ref lash my car back to stock before performing warranty work. Anyhow...
Din an now encrypts and hides their tune (similar to giac). I had to have my caqr reflashed a second time by BMW (second time in 3 weeks). Not only did the dealer not detect the tune. The ref lash didn't overwrite the din an software. Very nice... |

It depends on dealership IMO. Some of them just like being #@$%. Take your money to someone who values you as a customer. So if the tune is now invisible and not overwriten that good right?

When I was discussing options prior to install, SA stated they had never installed a BMW perf pkg because of the cost and minimal gains....and instead recommended the Dinan products. I'm scheduled for an oil cooler (OEM) and Dinan Stage 2 next week (caught the bug). |

You should have just called Dinan, told them that you needed the car reflashed, and given them the number for the dealership... they take care of the rest. Think of it like an Insurance company... nobody ever talks about the BMW - Geico relationship. And BMW doesn't honor a Dinan Warranty... they fix whatever is broken OUT of warranty, and Dinan pays for it.

adding: You should still call Dinan. If the dealer won't take responsibility for the Dinan upgrade they sold you, that should be Dinan's problem, not yours. Last edited by GaryS; 09-29-2010 at 11:13 AM.. |

I am more interested in a Dinan flash that will remain even if the dealer installs a software update. This would be a great feature if it is true. It sounds implausible to me though and I would want to see something official from Dinan before believing this.

Why is this important to you when the dealer will reinstall the Dinan flash after the updates? Just curious what you are thinking, or your situation.

Which I find hard to believe. Sounds like the dealer charged him $300 to do nothing.

I'm with the crowd that believes he got s(rewed out of $300. I had my car to the dealer to look at a long-crank issue. Software was remapped to BMW's newest version. Drive home felt a bit bland... w/o the dinan.
took it back to the dealer a week later to have the S2 reinstalled the car stopped feeling like a pansy. You can tell w/ the stock dme that the revs continue to climb but there isn't any power after 3k. Not the case with Dinan S2. $.02 |

Bro you paid 2 grand! Common sense would make you knee jerk when they said you would have to pay again. Go back and get a refund. They took your 300 and sent the RO back to dinan so they could get reimbursed.

10 minute drive to my dealer, 6 hour drive to a dealer who has Dinan.

Sorry sparkplug but anytime your dealer updates The DME, you still will need to have the Dinan software reflashed. The OP's situation sounds like an unfortunate case of the dealer taking advantage of him.

A couple of things...
1) HPFP issues are well documented here. What is new is BMW has revised their procedure for dealing with "fixing" the issue. Used to be they would replace fule pump no questions asked. Now you have to go through the following steps - 1) reflash, 2) new sensor 3)???. This is well documented on this forum (also see good Wikipedia description). 2) several others with flash base tunes have also confirmed that BMW will charge $300 for a reflash. In short - if you have ANY flash tune and you have HPFP issues, you will pay $300 or BMW will not even start work on your car under warranty. People can laugh, but its a fact. Policy has nothing to do with the dealer but everything to do with BMW's repair policy. 3) when a car is reflashed, the entire DME does not have to reflashed. BMW has released two software updates in the last two months - both supposedly related to the fuel pump. So, theoretically they could reflash a portion of the DME without over writing the Dinan flash. 4) Info on encrypting and not "marking" dinan flash came straight from Dinan. Thought some Dinan owners might find it helpful. 5) as I stated, the dealership who originally installed the flash is no longer a Dinan dealer. I thought it was a bit crappy that the same dealer would not ever work directly with Dinan to get my reflashing costs covered by Dinan. And "yes" I do intend to make a claim directly with Dinan. 6) Dinan and the alternate dinan dealership I have been working with have been awesome throughout all of this. Kudos to Dinan. I still really enjoy their product. BMW is the one who has a potential huge issue on their hands the HPFP (perhaps has big as Toyotal acceleration issues - again see Wikipedia update - very interesting). 7) I do know to spell (and pronounce) Dinan. My iphone seems to like splitting Dinan into two words. |
