TPMS Question

All of a sudden this morning I get a TPMS warning. Checked the pressure with an Accutire meter and it recorded 25 on both front tires and 32 on both rears. I know the recommended pressure is 32 front and 38 rear. But my question is why did I get the warning only today. The temperature this morning was around 45 degrees. The tires were last inflated in the summer. Could this be the reason? Anyway inflated the fronts to 32 and the rears to 38 and reset TPMS- looks alright for now.

ya that happen to me. Tires were inflated cold in the summer. Now the first cold day in fall at like 45 threw the warning. Its just the different temps.

I inflated it to reflect the correct pressure at cold temp. Is that alright or should I have left it alone?

Temperature drop can affect the PSI levels. I think you should be fine now.

If the PSI drops again, then you may want to check for any kind of leaks with the valve stem.

By law, the TPMS must warn you of a psi drop of no more than 25%. Acordingly, your TPMS should warn you no later than when your fronts are at ~25 and your rears at ~30. For each month in service your tire will lose about 1psi. For each 10 degrees in temps your pressure will vary by about 1psi. Lets assume that you filled your tires in June at 80 degrees. Your tires will have lost about 4psi over time and another 3.5 or so for temp - so about 7 - 8 psi since June. If you started at 32/38 then about 25/30 would be correct for a fully functioning tire - assuming that you filled them whem they had rested overnight and before they warmed up.
