Speeding ticket in Suffolk, need help!!!
So after 10 years of having my license, I finally got my first speeding ticket yesterday. I was doing 81 in a 55 on the Northern State. The roads are freshly redone, nice weather, and no traffic. Didn't feel as if I was going 81. Lol.
Anyhows, does anyone have any suggestions? I have a friend that's a lawyer who'll be accompanying me to court. Unlike Nassau, I heard there's no plea bargaining in Suffolk, is this true? So theres no way I can get my 81 knocked down to a lesser charge? Thanks!

Yes appear in court with your lawyer friend and tell the judge that this is the first ticket that you EVER got in your 10 years of driving...Make sure you goto the motor vehicle and get a copy of your license as far as the records of your driver's license as proof for the judge...Being prepared and showing him evidence of your unblemished driving record is better than speaking about it, judges want paperwork to back up the words! I see him giving you a break and just making you pay a fine...

u should know that the northern state is notorious for speed traps. there are lot of state troopers all the time. why do u think everyone crawls around 60-65mph and occasionally a quick 80mph here and there rather than constant cruise at 75? The LIE is much friendlier IMO.

The should offer you a reduction as a plea deal. Most places in NY do. If the law is the same as it was when I left NY a few years ago, if the officer doesn't show you have 1 more hearing for them to show and then it's thrown out.
Often times you just take the deal and bite the bullet on a large fine with fewer points |

Good luck with your ticket, the judges at Hauppauge are real pricks. Been there, done that SO many times. |

troopers usually run speed traps during holidays and last week in a month to get their 40 ticket quota per month. They bag people during holidays because people are in a rush to get to their dinner destination and to go home after food and drinks statistically when people had a few drinks they are less aware less cautious thats when troopers get their bonus of convictions from speeding and DWI /DUI. A safer time to speed would be during lunchtime and during shift changes overlaps. My advice is if you want to speed invest in a good radar/laser detector.
