Instead of reposting, follow up question.

Gary, the WS70 does not come in 225/40R18 to fit over the stock 18's, so for maximum traction, would you recommend

1. Bridgestone Blizzak WS60
2. Michelin X-Ice Xi2

I ran WS-60's last winter, and they are great in the snow. A bit squishy on dry roads though....but I guess that's the tradeoff.

You wont find many comments (other than Gary's) on the WS-70's since they are new this year.

I run blizzaks, an older model, and the higher rated one speed wise. They are great in snow, you will run into a problem with ground clearance on our car before you do with a depth problem.

The turn in sucks on warmer days (50's), on cold days is pretty good for snow tires. Blizzaks for sure though

I'm gonna go with that they all will be excellent. And, any difference in acceleration or braking between the three could only be distinguished by precise test equipment. If you want numbers, the yearly tests at naf.no puts the Continental ahead of the Michelin in both snow braking and handling. Snow acceleration was a dead tie; 5-35 kph in 5.1 seconds.

They didn't test the WS70 as it's not sold in Europe. It's probably right in the mix though.

WS 60 would have a slight advantage in deeper snow in this case.

Thanks.
I went with your first choice Michelin Ice, got them from Tire Rack (great price and service BTW). Had BMW mount them yesterday onto some new rims I found, I also got for a good price.

The rims are the same I had on my M3 so I could not resist to get them for my winter set. Pictures at the link below.

I bought the more performance oriented Pilot Alpin PA3 for my wife's 335i xdrive and her car is amazing. I mean it is out of this world in grip in snow and ice.

I have the Alpins as well and love them but they won't hold a candle to the Blizzak WS in deep snow.

The Alpins are an unbelievable winter tire but they were not designed for serious snow and ice like the Blizzak WS were.

Sounds good. My LM25s were mounted in Boston, but in Chicago they cannot handle a few days out of the winter and they are worn out. My wife drives the kids in the BMW for now, so maximum snow traction is key.
