Contest: Win a Vishnu Stage 0

Hi guys,
That's right. We're giving away a $1300 Stg 0 kit. What's the catch?

Build our Road Dyno/ET analysis software

What we would like is a nice clean software program that does 2 things:

1) Translates a 1st through 4th gear datalog run and derives 0-30mph, 0-60mph, 0-100mph and 1/4 mile ET and trap speed.

2) Translates a 2000-7000rpm 4th gear datalog run and generates a hp/torque dyno graph.

The datalog our computer spits out in a simple .csv format and samples 50 time per second. It outputs data such as RPM, boost (psi), ignition advance (deg), road speed (MPH), time stemp (sec), duty cycle (%), afr (lambda), etc,.

For accleration program, all you will basically need is road speed and the timestamp.

For the dyno program, all you will need road speed, timestamp and some user-definable constants (Cd, weight and gearing.)

Yes, we are aware that there are programs currently available on the internet. But I have yet to find anything that isn't a dressed-up excel spreadsheet. What we are looking for is something easy to use and clean looking. It should simply accept the .csv format and automatically spit out the desired performance data (either dyno or 1/4 mile run). At most, the user should be responsible for no more than logging a clean run (either single gear run for dyno plot or 1st thru 4th gear run for quarter-mile simulation). They should not need to crop data or cut and past anything.

For example, the software should be smart enough to know when to start and finish the dyno run analysis watching when the sudden positive change in road speed begins and ends. Or, in the case of the 1/4 run, start recording when road speed hits 1mph and ends when the quarter mile distance has been passed.

So if anyone has the creativity and know-how to make this software package AND have it be nice enough for us to adopt and offer to others (development credit will be given to you, of course), he/she will be presented with a free Stg 0 kit as well as a heartfelt "Thank You" from the Vishnu crew. Maybe some candy as well but what kind and how much depends on how much we like your program. And no, you cant cheat and dress up something that already exists and get us in trouble to distributing it as freeware

For those who are interested to learn more, email me at shiv@vishnutuning and I can send you a sample datalog file (.csv)

So there you have it... our first on-line contest!

Cheers,
shiv

little more details? what exactly are you looking for, does the program need a good GUI or do u just need it to spit the numbers out to the screen? do u need the numbers fed back somewhere or saved?

i meen even i could write you a simple program that would find the start and stop points and do the calculations and spit them out to the screen but it gets harder after that for me as im still in school

im sure theres plenty of people here who could do much better than me but id still like to try for fun

Good questions. Yes, we need a nice GUI. That is first and foremost. It has to be useable by someone who is not a "computer guy." The acceleration data should be displayed as a graph (time vs. road speed) as well as numbers (eg, 0-30, 0-60, 0-100, 1/4 mile ET and trap mph). The dyno results should be displayed as a standard-looking hp/torque dyno graph (rpm vs. hp/torque) with max values displayed in print. Make sense?

Cheers,
shiv

i think the graph output will be the biggest cut off for people who can and people who cant, i could output plots but i dont think i could output a graph

Gotcha. I suppose if you or anyone else wanted to collaborate with another person who could fill in the blanks, we could offer the kit to both at 1/2 price.

something just occurred to me (besides realizing i dont know how to spell occurred) what are you going to do about all the false data thats going to get logged? i meen specifically wheel spin, during gear shifts and from launch especially there are going to be a ton of fubar speed and rpm values. wont that destory the estimates for 1/4 mile and the hp torque estimates?

i would think a quick look at the values would tell you that i dont think the car would out out a 6000 fuel ratio, or be traveling at <12 mph for the whole run

not to mention that it shouldnt take more than a few hours and would probably equate to a couple hundred an hour

i still would like to know what you plan to do about wheel spin passing fubar values for speed and rpm in the ETs for 1/4 mile and hp torque (if their to be anywhere near accurate)

If I end up doing this, it will definitely NOT be for the money. And it won't be work - just a fun little project I can do on the side.

There isn't much we can do with bad data (wheel spin) except somehow try to filter it out. Perhaps someone can think of a maximum rate of acceleration and ignore anything that exceeds that (dismissed as wheelspin). In the datalog I've emailed to everyone, you can see some of it in first gear as well as a tiny bit shifting into 2nd. Looks like little fuzzy spike Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I would estimate 40-60 hours for a v1 quality product. Not worth it if you want to make a quick buck, but great if you like writing code or want to help the cause of making 335's faster :-).
