Advise Please - Car Valuation
Took my car to a dealer today to get it valued. They are going to let me know in the week. If I sold it privately, what do you think it would be worth?

Do your homework & check out the online classiflieds, auto trader, pistonheads, etc....that way you know if the dealers bid is competitive...you'll get a better bid from dealers if you are trading it in Imo....

Defo look in autotrader etc - do a search on your own car spec and see that they are going for.
When I sold my last 330i, the dealers wouldn't offer above 10 grand, I sold it first day private for 15K. You might get more if you're trading in, but then they'll charge you more / give less discount for the new car so you still lose! Always best to sell privately first, rent a small car in the interim, then buy your new one as a cash buyer. The monthly rental on a small car (£250-300 ish) will be less then the monthly depreciation on a decent 3 series, so you even win on that front |

Thanks for the feedback. This seems easier said than done to get a realistic price. Here are two approved used cars from Sytner Newport with similar spec and milage. 23K & 22K:
there is one on autotrader with Prof nav for £23,995 Was thinking of using pistonheads and trying for £19K |

Please do not slate me for this. I have owned three 3 series (323, 330 and 325) and think they are great cars, however my two sons are now driving so I have decided to down size and get a new 135 M sport coupe DCT. So I need as much cash as I can get from a direct sale to a dealer or a private sale. I will not be using partx though.

When I recently sold the wife's CR-V I got £2k more from webuyanycar than the offered part ex'. Also try we want any car if you are in the Midlands.

Very nice those 135is though - are you waiting for a facelift car? Try this link to get a glasses valuation, I have previously found webuyanycar are usually around 10% too low in valuation. http://www.virtual-showroom.co.uk/sc...=b&sessionid=0 *judging by the way I drove at that age.... |

No they are 25 (Drives E46 M3 Vert) and the other is 20 but has still to take his test. Will get him a 106 to start with, both still at home. LOL.

See these pics...not much change, but worth being aware of. No idea if there are any engine or trim/idrive changes.
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=442388 ...not sure when it hits production - but I'd be surprised if it were as far away as Sept 2011 (Sept=after 3er production shut down every year). I recall the 5er changes are much earlier in the year (April?) - maybe the 1er is the same, or earlier. Depends on the individual production line I guess. OP - Spend an afternoon calling around all of the dealers within a 40 mile radius of where you live - my worst and best quote when i sold my 335i last year varied by £4000 - all for the sake of a few phone calls.
Do not assume that what one dealer offers you will be similar to all other dealers.
