GIAC Stage 1, 1+ and 2
I was wondering if there is a stage 1+ for the GIAC software ....?
I am running all the extras including the catless DP's however I don't want to push 16.7 psi of boost with the stage 2. Is there something in between? Also with stage 2 boost do you need to upgrade the piping from the turbo to the intercooler and intercooler to the engine? Or is the stock one ok? Sorry for the stupid questions ... Thanks |

Don't know the answer to question 1, but I'm 99% sure that the answer to question 2 is no. I'm sure many other more knowledgeble folks will chime in soon with the definitive answers though. On another note, I was just reading the GIAC Flashloader instructions on GIAC's web site and I say this. I'm wondering if this is an option for our cars and if so, it may be exactly what you're looking for... "Boost Controller: Users now have the option to purchase a boost control product with three boost settings to choose from within an acceptable range. The buttons offer mild, MT01 (150), moderate, MT02 (210), and wild, MT03 (255). These settings will only affect PUMP or RACE programming." And this... "Pressing any of the MTO buttons, while in PUMP or RACE mode, sends a boost command to the ECU with different values. 1. MTO1 changes the boost to 150 2. MTO2 changes the boost to 210 3. MTO3 changes the boost to 255 For most ECUs, GIAC’s downloadable Windows™-based Switching" Here's the link if you'd like to read more... http://www.giacusa.com/downloads/fla...sermanual1.pdf |

Best is that you contact your nearest giac dealer and ask them this questions.

in the VW world they only had one stage for GIAC. Once you added extras like DP/I/IC it would adapt.
Im pretty sure you can run a Stage 1 file with DP's and get more power outta it then a Stage 1 without DPs |

You need to have the right stage for the mods otherwise the car wont run perfectly.
Just run the stage 2. If giac has tuned it for a specific boost you can be 100% sure that it is safe.

you dont necessarily have to run higher boost with DP IC etc..
if you wanna be safe you can use DP IC with Stage 1.. someone correct me if im wrong.. and please explain why so. |

You're right. What they're saying is just that you won't be at full potential without the right stage

No, just Stage 1 and 2.
If you put the bolts on, like FMIC, DPs, and exhaust on the stage 1, you should get about another 30hp possibly. Then go to the Stage 2 map, and enjoy 100rwhp+ above stock with those bolts on. I'm working my way to Stage 2. I am putting a FMIC on soon and will dyno that with the Stage 1 and see if I get anymore power. Of course, different day/conditions from my baseline will be off, but at least we will have a general idea.

You cant run stage 1 with full bolt ons . That stage is developped for oem exhaust and ic.
Full bolts: stage 2 or 2plus Stock: stage 1 or stage 1 plus

i dont see why you cannot run a Stage 1 file with TBE/IC/DCI...etc.. only thing different is that you actually get more power than a basic Stage 1 flash only.. so explain |

I thought Mr. 5 ran stage 1 with nearly full bolt-ons? If I remember correctly, he saw decent gains over stock w/ stage 1. Of course, this was before stage 2 came out - then it makes sense to take advantage of the power gains there. I don't see why running stage 1 with full bolt-ons would be bad.

Giac is calibrated on the hardware installed. The flash uses torque target, it does not work like a piggy which fouls the dme. If you have for example ic and dps you will reach those targets much faster which will make the dme cut boost.
For example after installing my upgraded turbos on giac stage 2 plus the car did not run well since the flash was requesting boost but at the psi the upped turbos push much mire air and reached the targets so quickly that boost was constantly cutting. Giac is extremely fine calibrated and thats why you need to run the right stage for the mods. I really dont understand why you would not run a stage 2 if you invested in all the bolt ons... And no piping does not need to be changed, in fact i dont think anybody managed to do that because of the lack of space.

oh i see what your point is.
however thats true i believe Mr 5 ran Stage 1 with bolt ons and saw decent gains and no problems.. and maybe some people don't wanna run Stage 2 due to boost issues. Since the boost is higher..its more stress on the turbos as well. |

I run a beta stage 2 with 14,5 psi and i did as well run a stage 1 full bolt on but as i have already mentioned the car was cutting boost now and than. Best is to call giac or one of their dealers and explain that you want a custom map.

Thanks for all the great info ... I was thinking of getting the stage 1 first and then seeing how the car runs ... I just dont want to push too much PSI out of the turbos ... want to run alittle on the safer side. Unfortunately, I live in Hong Kong and the service from GIAC I don't think would be great.
Can I get the Flash Loader to change between the two stages just like you can do for Race, Valet and Pump Gas programs? |

You cannot change between stages, also keep it mind that stage 2 is not constantly pushing 16,7 psi. It depends on the weather etc to reach torque targets and again if giac pushes that much it means its fine for the turbos. Dont worry and just go stage 2 all the way.

go for it, I thought stage 1 was fast, stage 2 has turned my car into a beast! GIAC has a long history and reputation with VW/Audi/Porsche, and I strongly believe their #1 priority is driveability and reliability.
