The End - Yes. Really. Finally.
You are probably sick of hearing from me go on about the same thing continuously, but I thought I would start one last topic on my Alpine saga as it has finally finished now for sure. My low PDC volume was fixed (although some there was some hassle, crashed computers, and contact with BMW AG needed.) Just to top it off, when I went to get my car the first time on Tuesday, the right side door speaker wasn't working... After close to 10 months I found it most disappointing that nobody could simply check that EVERYTHING worked, like I was told on the phone. It turned out to be a quick fix so I got the car on the following day, Wednesday.
Basically, I finally got my car and 1) Will be refunded full amount for Alpine system 2) Vehicle check done FOC 3) Choice of Lifestyle gear or major service FOC - Chose the service of course Here is the main bit that interests me though. I was told my system is back to "stock" now. However, I still have door tweeters which are functional - first thing I checked was whether they worked. Also, the door mid speakers seem to look the same as the silver ones that come part of the Alpine kit. It lacks the same 'kick' as before so I assume the amp has gone. On a more minor note, I also had the Alpine logo sticker on my tweeter cover grill but those are no longer there so either they took them off or a new door trim was used. They were just stickers, but the fact they're gone makes it more a bit more confusing in knowing what they did. Why would someone bother removing some stickers? But at the same time... why would they use a new door trim when the old one was the same part? ... I'm just working myself up about nothing really... Either way, PDC volume now is good and my sound system finally works but I'm not quite sure what type of system it is. |

It sounds like they took it back to "stock" using minimal effort/changes so as not to create further problems. As you said they took the Alpine amp out but would have left the additional tweeters in place. However, as it's no longer Alpine they would probably have replaced the Alpine tweeter cover grills with standard cover grills (else it would be false advertising). So you probably now have the equivalent of a HiFi Loudspeaker System with 8 speakers, rather than the standard system with 6 speakers.
Anyway, it's good they gave you some more freebies for all the hassle and inconvenience they caused you. BTW, if you have navigation you should also test that you can change the volume of the nav lady's voice instructions. |

SBC, so it seems like you have kept all of the speakers from the Hi-Fi setup, but probably the front subwoofer+mid+tweeters are all running from the same channel in the head unit like the standard setup. That seems ok to me as long as the subwoofer level matches up ok. If I recall correctly you had the subwoofers under the seats ugraded to the 8" hi-fi version which wasn't even part of the Apline aftermarket upgrade.

Hint: you can program one of the 8 Favourites buttons to switch Voice Instructions On/Off, then press that button twice to make her repeat the last instruction. |
