English majors need some help pwwease
Im working on my next essay, which is a cause and effect paper. This is my least favorite style of writing. Im doing it on the theory of vaccines causing autism, she gave us topics and we were instructed to narrow it down to one specific thing about that topic.
Im just looking for some guidance, tips or any advice you guys can give to help make this essay a little easier. For your help, boobs SFW

Hey man, I'm doing the same type of thing now too, have to pass a second language competency test. What they make us do is a little prelim research, then make a firm outline and from there it's just fill in the blanks. Do you at least get to do it on computer? We have to do them in class.

you can write about my uncle...I was talking to him one day and he joked that autistic kids are like an old TV and just need to be smacked around a little in order to "get the wires up there to touch"

I'll write it for you.
There is no cause and effect when it comes to autism and vaccines. The only cause and effect is now children are not getting vaccinated and DIEING from easily preventable and vaccinable diseases. |

My English prof was an ex-nurse and when we were going over Cause and Effect essays she actually brought up Vaccines and Autism. She ended up giving us a very detailed lecture on the history of it, and why the whole "concern" is misleading and grossly incorrect.

Cause and effect...
At the end of your introduction, clearly state that (effect) is a direct result of (cause)...your thesis. Allude to your support. Your thesis can be 2-4 sentences. In your support, adequately address the direct relationship, refute any possibilities of correlation succinctly while reaffirming the causal nature of your support. Do not directly quote things unless you really can't put it in your own words and make it fit your syntax/structure better than it is stated in your original source. Avoid sources that cite things...if you're looking at a source for a blip that cites something else, just go to what they cite. If that source cites something else then go to that. Get as close to the original information as you can. For example, a source shouldn't report what someone or something else said/reported. If a citation is going to sound like "WSJ reported xxxxxxxxx" (USA Today) just go and find the WSJ article or what have you and cite it directly Structure can loosely be broken into Intro Support Support Support Support Conclusion but does not have to so obviously defined. One support should lead into one another, build upon each other if possible/necessary. Your first support should be the strongest and most irrefutable, everything else can branch out from there, related or unrelated. |

Its not out yet but take a look at PERRLA. It was a great tool for me in school and made formatting, citing references a breeze!

This does not mean you can't write a cause and effect paper, just have to write it as a negation. Vaccinations do not have a causal relationship with with autism. Cause? Vaccinations. Effect? Not autism.

I would personally write it as Causes: Vaccinations. Effects: Not autism, kids dead from diseases they could have been vaccinated from due to f'ed up parents.

Example Thesis: Vaccines are a lifesaving tool for thousands upon thousands of people across the world. They can prevent a wide range of diseases and are vital in many parts of the third world. However, several myths persist about the use of them; one of the most salient being the apparent link between children receiving vaccines and their eventual development of autism. There is significant evidence that receiving X (Vaccines) does/doesn't lead to the development of autism. This is something that deserves further research and investigation.
And go ahead and hide a nice fat bleezer in there when you turn it in. . you know how English teachers are
