The Absolute Best Coilovers
So I'm trying to find the best performing coilovers for my 335i. Ride comfort is of no concern since if anyone complains about the ride they can walk :P Anyway I've been looking at the HKS Hipermax 3, Tein Euros, and KWs. I'm really into drifting and track events so performance and being fully adjustable are my only concerns. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated thanks.
Also I realize there are several threads about coilovers already but for just strictly performance what would be the best. |

Well what would you recomend for the best coilovers then im asking because I don't know and I just recently got my 335i. On my friends IS300 the Tein Flex are amazing beyond belief and another one of my friends is running HKS with incredible results. So any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Motons, Öhlins, JRZ. AST if money is a concern. Remote reservoir or bust.

The overall setup is more important than the money spent on coilovers. You can spent literally $20k on coilovers and make the car handle worse than the stock suspension if you don't know how to setup the car and adjust them.
What is your budget? |

The KW Variant 3 is state-of-the-art technology for the skilled and experienced driver. The separate and independent compression and rebound damping options allow a truly individual driving set-up. These unique systems with the 3 individually adjustable components, allows for adjustment of the compression of the damper in the low-speed range, while the high speed set-up, so decisive for driving comfort, has been preset by our engineers. You will have the ability to adjust the height of your vehicle as well as adjust both rebound and damping characteristics. Rebound adjustment, with the exception of specified vehicles, can be performed with the kit installed via an adjustment spindle on the end of the piston rod. The rebound damping primarily, controls pitch and roll of the vehicle, especially in the low speed damping range which directly influences handling and comfort. Therefore vehicle can be adjusted to the needs of the driver, making the ride variable from comfortable to sporty and stiff, both with improved road handling. The compression characteristics are adjusted utilizing a new, patented valve at the lower end of the damper casing. The number of pre-installable parameters available for this valve allow for settings for just about any application required. The unique low-speed pressure adjustment is the decisive feature of this technology. In this absorption area the handling of the vehicle is greatly influenced. An increase in the damping force supports the vehicle even during compression, thereby preventing pitch, roll and notably improving cornering behavior. My track oriented customers have all been extremely happy with their KW V3 setups and have nothing but great things to say about the system in general. I cannot shoot you over a PM due to your low post count so shoot me over an email here at Alan************.com and I'll get you some more information! - Alan |

Coming from a guy who had KW V3's, I'd spend a little more and look into Ohlins, TCKline, AST. |

AST 4100 if you don't need double adjust. Great deals now -- MSRP at $1899 w/ Swift springs or equivalent.
Need more info, other suspension mods. LSD?

You want the top end? Koni Double-Adjustable struts all around with your choice of Swift Springs coil over conversion. I've been testing this setup on an E93 and let me tell you, this is about the best you can get before you go remote reseviour. It will also set you back about 24-2500. Harold is the man to speak to about it. I wouldn't recommend KWs or FKs. Too failure prone considering they blow easily, have sway bar tabs shear off, the welds break on the bottom and blow the insert out, squeaking springs or internal noise from the piston assembly. I went back to selling H&R coil over kits to my customers and have never had an issue yet in 2 years. |

While they might not have an off-the-shelf setup for our cars, you can still get them - you just have to get them custom made. The guy that does my alignment had a set of JRZ's with remote reservoirs made for his track car. He got them at a pretty good discount - $8,500.

If you are serious about drifting your 335, your going to need a LSD also and at least. Swaybars also, upgraded bushings - in the rear for sure. If its more of a street and show kind of deal, maybe you slide around the neighborhood or something - KW V3 will do it all day and H&R will put up to some abuse also,it really depends on the true use of the car. |
