They are both great. AMS is what I ran... I wouldn't give this advice out seriously, but in this case, I'd say close your eyes and pick one. I'd also consider the ER fmic also... I'd look at the helix too if there was a better way to support it assuming price was equal.

What do you mean "if there was a better way to support it", does the Helix have install issues??

I think he means other means of supporting rather than just the two screws and the intercooler piping...something like the HPF bracket that secures the intercooler to the chasis. I haven't heard of any install issues

I just talked to the guys at HPF and they built their intercooler to handle their single turbo upgrade...sounds pretty bulletproof to me. SO....i ordered one. I would strongly consider this one although its a couple hundred extra. Just my 2 cents.

Hey guys. Just to clarify our intercooler is held on by the two flanges, our 2 screws and washers, its sandwiched between the fan shroud and the front plastic cowel and also has the splash guard there. There is no support problem with our intercoolers

We've installed Helix intercoolers here at the shop and can vouch for this - no issues!

I cannot speak for the CP-E FMIC as it's not a product line that I carry specifically, but I'm sure that it is a good product. However, I have had nothing but positive feedback from my customers who have purchased and installed the AMS FMIC on their N54 vehicles.
The AMS Intercooler features cast aluminum end tanks for added durability with smoother features and geometry. Designed by AMS' engineering team using Solid works (3D CAD software) these A356 T6 Alloy Aluminum end tanks have improved flow over sheet metal end tanks and include gusseted brackets to prevent cracking or failure. AMS end tanks don’t end there. They also incorporate an industry first 3” inlet and exit port. AMS goes beyond the competition to ensure quality. Each AMS Intercooler is hand TIG welded in a jig for a perfect fit and pressure tested to 50 psi to ensure maximum performance. Specifications: Intercooler core dimension: 6" tall, 20" wide and 6" thick Good for up to 550whp Comes with the Black "AMS" Painted Logo (optional) Slight trimming of plastic bumper support required Weighs 17.6 lbs. Feel free to contact me if you guys have any quesitons at all! - Alan |

CP-E = 528 CI volume
AMS = 720 CI volume HPF = 815 CI volume To me, the AMS and HPF look to have better flowing end-tanks, but will require cutting. The CP-E can be setup to attach an additional oil cooler. It's your choice, and I really like CP-E's and AMS's stuff, but I'd go for the HPF on my own car. |

Ive done countless hours of research and have personally called 4 companies and talked to them about their intercoolers and why they were the best. I came to a solution that HPF was the best not only for now, but also if you decide that you want to upgrade the turbos like many in this community will. HPF has a reputation 2nd to none and their intercooler is made to handle their single turbo conversion n54....sooo if you want to keep those options open, I would go with the HPF (which i did). I will be getting it on friday. OP, good luck with your purchase. |

depends on what your needs are. If its strictly roadracing with bolt-ons, I say go with the AMS. Now if your ever going to track your car, CP-e is the better deal.
