Navigation/Idrive changes besides programmable keys?

Hi everyone,
So i'm just wondering if the Navigation/Idrive system has any other differences besides the 6 programmable keys (as of March 07) in the E series
Meaning is there any hardware or software differences?
How about the rearview camera like in the X5.
I only ask because the programmable keys really don't change anything in my life and i couldn't care less but if there were any changes to the actual system then it would really piss me off.
So maybe someone knows...
Thankx

An E Series is made by Mercedes. Try the Mercedes board.

LOL I had the same reaction to the initial post. But now I'm guessing "E series" means E90/92?

Other than the new programmable buttons (which would be a tremendous benefit, IMO) and HD radio, I have not heard of anything new in iDrive itself. The software is constantly evolving, though.

supposedly the "Business Navi" is getting some much needed TLC. Seeing as how I have only seen one forum user that even has it, and he is looking to rip it out and replace it with the Professional version....

But I guess that is not what your looking for, seeing how Canada only gets the Professional Navi version.

Not possible, since all BMWs from the 1960s through the E93 have an "E" in their code name.

The new 5-series update (scheduled for March) offers finally a factory installed ipod/usb option. Not sure if this will be available on the 3 or other models in March .....

From the 5-series overview:

optional iPod/USB Adapter (factory installed option)

"New for 2008 is an optional iPod/USB Adapter that will accommodate an iPod as well as other MP3 players, and will also allow the vehicle to be equipped with a CD changer at the same time. With this option, the driver will have full control of iPod functions and menus via the steering wheel audio controls. "

does this mean that we can only control the ipod using the steering wheel, and not through iDrive using the iPod interface????

Hehe... he spelled "3" backwards.

Do you s'pose the 3 series really needs a rear view camera?

yes the rear view camera can be added in the accessories over seas for the 3 series so i assume it has a good chance of making it here!!! also i thought there was a resolution change and i don't think you will be able to add hd radio to the old unit..one reason i was happy to add it to my order that is in production right now!!!

DVD

Hi!
I just wondering if it would be possible to play DVD on the screen with just a software change? I don't mean that we could change the software by our self but BMW could do it?

BMW does not offer it (that I'm aware of), but there is this solution:
