Back tires are rubbing. Please help!
Hello,
I recently bought new wheels for my ride: Car = '07 328i Sedan Back wheels = BMW Style 220 19" (9.5) Back tires = 265/35 ZR19 (staggered fitment) (Note: these wheels are from an M3) The problem is that the back tires are rubbing when going over dips or uneven surfaces. I've attached two pictures so you can better understand the issue. If you look closely at the pics, you'll see that the tires have rubbing marks on the outside area. It seems that the back tires are rubbing against the fender or the inside cover. I need help with finding a solution to this problem. Unfortunately, exchanging or returning the wheels is not an option. Helpful suggestions are highly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your responses! EDIT: I'm now considering 3 possible solutions: 1st Roll the fenders 2nd Get new tires ex: stretch a 255 on a 9.5 wheel ex: get a skinnier tire - a 30 instead of 35 3rd Install coil spring boosters or locks 1st option - I'm gonna go to some shops to see if they have experience with rolling fenders. I'm concerned that they won't be able to do a quality job. 2nd option - stretching a tire will reduce protection of the wheels when hitting sidewalks accidentally. Do you think that a skinnier tire may give my car a somewhat lowrider look? and will probably make the ride feel more rough? 3rd option - What do you guys think about installing coil spring boosters or locks? I've attached sample pics of coil spring boosters. The last picture is an example of coil spring locks. Once again, thank you very much in advance for your suggestions! Do you have any profile shots of the wheels on the car? I'm interested to see how the offset works on the non-M body.
BTW: Solution to your problem is to roll your fenders so they don't rub. If that's not enough, you might need skinnier tires in the rear if the offset is too low. |

The solution is different tires. The PS2's on the M3 wheels will rub no matter what on a non-M E90/E92. You need to stretch the tires a little bit by stepping down to a 255/35 on what I believe is a 19x9.5? I forget the wheel sizes for style 220's are.

roll your fenders. I have 20s with offset of 25 in the rear and all i did was roll my fenders... Rubs with full car a bit. But roll your fenders or go 255 on the 19s

your WHEEL is bigger by almost 5% in diameter, of course it'll rub. Roll fenders if it helps, but you might as well put on a narrower and more stretched tyre if the fender rolling won't do.

Your tires are too tall for a non M car. Next time use the correct 265/30R19 tire size.

30 / 35 is the ratio, or height of the tire and the 2x5 is the actual width of the tire.
So swapping a 35 for a 30 will make it a little shorter, but will be pretty similar in width. |

Are you running the OEM 245/35/19 m3 sized tires in the front?

As mentioned, roll your rear fenders first. I too had this similar problem due to my wheels have aggressive M3 offsets (15 ft & 25 rr). Stepping down to 30 aspect ratio tires will definitely help. Use all solutions with a 265 width tire and you will be likely cure of the rubbing problem.

Michelin PS2 are wide fitting tyres. Change to a 265/30/19 tyre of most other brands and the rub will be reduced. There will be a mis-match in diameter from the front 245/35/19, but I am not sure if it will be noticable.
