Question BMW sports innovation package promotion

HI everyone...

I'm new to this forum and the last few days i have been reading so much from this forum, and i've finally decided to purchase my first BMW. Kinda exciting and nervous at the same time... 2010 alpine white 320d lifestyle with M Sports innovation package with sunroof, 18" inch M wheels and front/rear PDC/sensors

1) Not sure about the price (already paid deposit though)
Tried haggling as much as possible and asking of 69K for the above.. Is that a reasonable price???

2) After market paint protection and tint (been reading a few post about it as well as bimmerforum.
- Quoted for the above for $3300 with insurance package..
-ive read somewhere about removing door panels and as well as scratches on your new tint despite not using power windows for days

3) Wheels and tyre insurance
- Worth getting it?? quoted $765 for 3 years..

Thanks for your input..

From..

Hi bimmer320d,

I purchased same vehicle in March of this year, June delivery for more than that - even with haggling and fleet discount !

The advertised $8700 Msport inclusion by BMW at the moment certainly helps with the 69K - is that on-road ?

I took out the rim and tyre insurance - if I have one puncture it pays for itself and also covers rim damage. I thought it was worth the cost and if you have seen the replacement cost of 18" run flat tyres......It's peace of mind.

The other option is if you get a flat, just replace all 4 tyres with non run-flat tyres; many forum members have done this and experience better ride and comfort compared to the run-flats.

Regarding the dealer applied paint protection - as an alternative give the guys from: http://carcareprodusts.com.au a call, the guys there are great and can advise of alternatives! Have used them myself for product and advice as have many other forum members.

Congratulations on the new car - if yours is the 135Kw motor, It's a great car to drive..

Cheers...

PS: When you get the car post pics !!!

Full RRP would be $70K approx taking into account the $8700 worth is free and adding front PDC and 18's? So yeah, if you stuff around you might squeeze a bit more off but if it's the spec and colour you want, and everyone is happy, just enjoy it.

As for the tyre insurance, we got it for our E91 on 16s as the plan was to keep the RFTs but for the Msport 325i I didn't and wouldn't as it sort of prevents you from swapping to decent tyres and with the 18s you might tire of the banging and tramlining.

As for paint protection, don't waste you money. Better spent getting a professional detail once a year.

I totally agree. Not required for BMWs at least. The paint quality on these cars, or at least on the BMW cars that I have owned (E36 320i, E46 232i and E90 325i) have all had terrific pain quality.

I kept my E36 for 6 years and E46 for 7 years and even when I was close to trading each of them in, especially after a good wash with the car nice and shiny, people used to ask if it was a new car - seriously.

I suppose if you live in an area that has lots of winter snow, then possibly a reasonable idea.

Best wishes for your new car.

It is 69k driveaway, i think it should be 135kw in the new BMW 'lifestyle' range. The car was in Sydney holding and hopefully it has arrived in Melbourne.
I will definitely post pics of my car for sure.... before/after window tints.. Have anyone went with tint-a-car in Melbourne? I heard there are some dodgy car tinters out there... and i read that door panels have to be removed for the tinting? That's *scary* for a non-BMW person removing your panels.

Hopefully the new 18's and RFT plus the M sports suspension is not going to drive me CRAZY like my STIFF Honda civic type R '08 * i think my internal organs have suffered enough the last 2 years*

Funny thing was, i test drove the 320d lifestyle innovation without the M sports and decided to go for the M sports pacakage. LOL!! So, i don't really know how the drive feels like. Seriously, i hope its not going to being like the civic type r

If i have a puncture in the RFT, thats the end of the tyre? The Rough estimate of a RFT should be between $500-$800?? or am i disillusion?
If i do change all 4 tyres to non-RFT would be about $2000 or less?.

Thanks for the advise for the paint protection- i always thought that its a MUST have for new cars, as I have done it for my previous non-BMW cars, which was also 2x cheaper. but cheaper doesn't equate good quality as well...
I don't think i need the leather protection either with the black Dakota leather.. unless something white spilt on it.

i'm really enjoying this forum... Do we have BMW meet ups/gathering??

If you parallel park a lot then the tyre and rim insurance could come in handy if you or someone else scrapes your rims against a gutter. Also if you hit the mother of all pot holes, it might be good to have it too.

The cost of the policy is pretty small compared to the value of the tyres/wheels and remember it is a three year period of insurance.

I'm guessing in a 320d, your rear tyres wont wear that quickly so I'd be surprised if you need to replace them before the policy expires.

The 320d probably has a longer wheel base so it wont feel as harsh even though it will still be firm. Firm is good.

Regarding the Msport suspension - I felt the same way; concerned regarding harshness but have found it to be OK and not bone shattering. My wifes previous car a Mazda MPS6; now that was `harsh`.

If your car is supplied with Bridgestone run-flats; they are presently officially un-repairable if they are punctured. You may find some independant tyre places may repair. The tyres are also stamped `not to be repaired`.

Tyre pricing for the 18" Msport 193M rims - as they are staggered sizes the rears being wider are around the $700.00+ per tyre mark.

With the window tint - since you've got a great price get the dealer to fit. If there are any issues it's the dealers problem and you know your new car will be treated with a measure of care.

If you are inclined to wash and polish your own car - the guys at carcareproducts can recommend either paint protection coating similiar to what BMW offers for $2000 for a fraction of the price or you can purchase some quality waxes and apply twice per year depending on how the car will be garaged

Cheers..

$700 for 4 tyres? Really cheap!

$700 for 1 tyre? Really pricey!

It's well known that the "post sales" goodies like window tinting, paint protection are a rip-off designed to increase the (relatively) thin margins in sales. If you really want them, you can get equivalent items / services significantly cheaper outside the dealer network (e.g. window tinting at around half price is typical)

Lots of fantastic advise...

hey aaccon, the website u've given me has many fantastic products!! Will get a few products there...

i've been goin through the RFT forum in e90 post and else where, so far this is what i concluded:

1) Ride comfort with conventional tyres are better- but the set back is you require a spare, which ppl have improvise ways to put one in the hollow boot. Also, the cost of a spare of $800 from BMW (coming from Germany)

2) there are many options for cheaper conventional tyres, with equivalent performance to RFT

3) Tyre and rim insurance worth while for 3 years for $765, but a RFT will still cost close to $1000 & with the insurance cover of up to $375 per tyre only- with out of pocket close to $600+

Any further comments to RFT/conventional tyres?

Thanks,
Bimmer320d

Just as information we had the 18's on our 08 320i M sport and we ended up going the 17's on our new 325i

The ride is so much better and you don't sacrifice handling

And I'm a self confessing hoon

Makes perfect sense to me and likewise I like to corner as fast as possible.

Coming from a Civic R, hopefully either will be nice.

As for RFT vs non-RFT, for me it wasn't so much the ride as the tramlining that drove me to distraction - swapping so vastly improved the steering and even the way the rear end finally stopped being yanked off-line over every bump and camber change.

Is your car an MY11 LCI? That's 135kw/380nm. Beast of an engine.

The M-sport suspension in BMWs would be considered 'plush' compared to the bone shattering ride of a Civic Type-R. You'll feel like you're in a limousine.

The tyres aren't supposed to be repaired but a lot of tyre shops do it anyway. Better choice is to just swap them all out for non-RFTs: buy from tirerack.com since our dollar is so strong and you'll end up spending less than $1,500 for 4 EPIC tyres.

Actually, our leather is quite prone to creasing and colour fade. It's best if you condition it once a month to maintain the 'new' feel.

You can get 700 for 4 from tirerack

Use ArmourAll wheel protectant. It keeps the wheels perfectly clean between washes. Due to the inclement weather in Sydney over the past 2/3 weeks, I haven't cleaned my wheels or car at all. Still no brakedust on my wheels after driving everyday through rain, hail and shine.

Tyre and rim insurance
Option 1- 375 per tyre replacement/repair. Max $750 per policy year. $1100 wheel replacement/repair in 12 mths.

Option 2- $800 per tyre. Max of 1400 per policy year. $1100 wheel replacement/repair in 12 mths.

I think u have the option 2 aaccon.

congrats on your purchase! personally i wouldn't bother the tyres/rims insurance..check the fine print and exclusion..it doesn't cover damage caused by scratching - includes curb/gutter damages etc.

Thanks ninja333. 10 more days and counting down before i get to jump behind the wheels!!
With the tyre and rims insurance, I had experienced x2 nail punctures this year in my civic type R despite driving in freeways and non-construction area...

I feel i still may risk puncturing my tyres...

I have decided to go with tint a car- the quote was $395 with midnight express.
They have this paint protection with sirius 8.5 + tinting worth $800.. But i think the paint protection is not worth it..

I have decided to purchase some products from carcareproducts.com.au, as recommended by aaccon

we've recently took delivery of an Alpine White 320i in manual, done 3500km so far..have no regret it, absolutely loving it. i've already done a few mods - tinted, upgrade the stock 16" wheels to 18" 193M
