Newbie...question on JB3

Couldn't think of how to search, but I am curious if it is okay to run Map 3 or Map 5 all day long?

I'm not tracking or racing the car, but If I am on the highway and want to feel some power to pass a few cars....I would like to be able not to pull over, shut off the car and set the Map.

I'm thinking that if I leave the Jb3 on Map 5 (since I have DCI and run 93 octane all the time), that should not be a problem?

I know, probably going to be called a tard or something, but I am new to Turbo's and didn't know if running on higher pressure during daily driving is an issue, bad for turbo's?

Thanks....ALSO....I have been playing around going from Map 3 to Map 5 back and forth during the same day.....I read somewhere about adaptation? Can you elaborate? Should I be leaving the setting on Map 5 for a few days? If so, what would the computer be adapting to?

The ECU just needs some time to learn the new setting....more like 100 miles or so instead of a couple days....

I'd say leave it on the highest map setting that you're willing to go up to and leave it there.....

I doubt it is 100 miles. Two or three WOT runs should do it.

To the OP, my wife drives the 335i every day. I have no mods except the JB3 running map 5. She notices no difference and she is high maintenance lol. I ran a 12.78 yesterday.

Do it.

Don't keep changing maps..

It takes a day or 2 to fully adapted (As Terry told me)

But a good few WOTs will help

Nonetheless don't keep changing.. pick one and stay on it

Map3 or Map5 are fine with DCI and 93 octane

Thanks...I decided to leave it on Map 5 and as I always have for 10 years, or at least since they stopped selling 94 octane, I have been pumping 93 octane in all my bmw's.

Can't wait to mod. The prior owner had the top end removed and cleaned out recently, along with all new plugs and injectors (serviced at BMW with records) so I'm thinking now would be a good time to do a catch can mod.

Can't stop driving this machine. It is about 40F out today and the whoooosh whooosh is nice! Driving around with my window down on a cold day....LOL....just so I can hear the noise. I'm in kindergarten.

Can anybody give me a rough idea on the horse power I have now...I keep telling my friends....over 400 hp at the crank with my mods? How about at the wheels? The charts I have seen have different tunes and different mods?

Also...what is the difference when the DME adapts to the Map settings? I'm trying to figure that out? Since I don't usually take the motor over 5k rpm's, I don't start out hard in 1st gear, will the adaptation dumb down the tune to my type of driving?

with the jb3 and intake on map 5 you should have about 340-50 at the wheels, so 400 crank should be about right.

No, I would just find somone with a used exhaust on the private sale thread if you are looking to save some money. You wont gain any hp from the golf tee mod, only sound on start up. The flap opens when you are wide open anyway so there is no diff. in hp. OR if you want to retain the same OEM look you can get "cat deleted mid pipes." That gain would help free up your exhaust since you are running map 5. I wouldnt push map 5 a whole lot longer without more mods than just dci. You are running 13-15psi without freeing up the ambient airflow(FMIC) and w/o freeing up the back side of the turbos(exhaust and dp's) so there is a restriciton on how much air can be pushed out through 4 cats(which is a hell of a lot for 13-15psi.) Also if you want to make sure you are not loosing any of that 13-15psi, I would check out a new chargepipe with aftermarket DV's or BOV. The stock charge pipe is SO cheap, when I removed it a couple months ago, I laughed at how cheap the whole set up was. Thats just my opinion but I like to be on the safe side of things. Good luck with your mods, this car is a lot of fun with all the extra goodies.
