Dyno: ASR Upgraded turbos

Found this posted elsewhere. I don't know much else about it...

135 6MT from PR with:
Injen Intake
Riss Racing catted Dp's
Riss Racing 3" exhaust
AMS FMIC
Procede v4
ASR upgraded turbos

93oct pump gas
NO meth
NO racegas

Pretty darn good for having a pair of cats and running pump gas. Temp was 85F with 90% humidity as well. Judging by the relatively low RPM for peak hp in the 2nd gear, I'd say that 18psi was probably a bit too aggressive. Would have probably made the same power running 17psi.

Thanks for sharing Shiv.

On a side note, the least I hear about ASR and Abid the better. I had bad experiences with that individual 10 years ago when I had just moved to this country, barely spoke any English and didn't know much about cars. Judging by recent experiences people are reporting on various online Forums it doesn't look like this person has changed much.

Yep i got a call from someone a couple days ago asking how to raise the boost. At first, he was running the default boost value of 13.5psi. That must have been a letdown

It wasn't easy for my friend to get those turbos down here to PR, he almost buy a ticket and go to Asr offices but after almost 3 month he is very happy with the performance.

He tells me the car pulls like crazy in every gear and he wants to go back to the dyno!

Also that dyno was extremely hot around 85 degrees, poor ventilations (cheap fans), almost 100% humidity!

That car with JB3 map 5 same mods last dyno was around 356whp so is like 70whp more, that huge a gain!

And I know that he needs to tune his car better and send you some logs that he haven't done!

He really doesn't need to do anything. As I told him on the phone, he just needs to set maximum boost to 18psi and let Procede Autotuning do the rest. Not only will it find the best boost level, timing retard curve for the octane/conditions, it will also adjust the wastegate DC map to compensate for the new wastegates. The days of sending logs back and forth to get an halfway decent result is over. Now you don't have to do anything and get a darn good result.

Why would you set to 18psi for pump??? I know autotuning will take care of tuning it down but why run higher than 16psi on pump...

would be nice to know a baseline...the Helix turbos at about 16psi made this much on a Mustang dyno 93 pump but we don't know sh*t without a baseline...

I was running 20-22psi on 93 octane on my DSM back in the day. No water injection.

the ams intercooler is also really small so that might hinge his performance. anyways ive seen these turbos at work first hand and their pretty darn impressive.....made my car look like it was standing still

Just to keep track of rumors and gossip. Today I learned that I set up a fake account and pretended to be a Russian? And that I'm best friends with Abid@ASR. And all sorts of stuff. I suppose this need for drama and conflict is why reality shows are so popular.

The reason why 15-16psi is the limit for good safe power on pump gas is because the factory turbos are induces a great deal of exhaust backpressure at that boost level. As a result, some of that super hot exhaust gets pushed back into the engine during valve overlap. This a) increases in-cylinder charge temp and b) reduces pumping efficiency which makes the engine far more prone to detonation.

Alleviating this condition with a good turbo upgrade will allows you to run more boost with the same octane constraint. In such a case, running 17-18psi on pump gas can be perfectly suitable as long as the rest of the system supports it.

This is all priceless! This looks almost the same as the helix upgrade everyone was dogging the numbers bc it didnt have a procede tune yada yada and this is higher boost levels and making less power and everyone is saying it looks good. Talk about FANBOI'S!!!

Will a upgrade turbo with stock DP = to Stock turbos with Catless DP?

Unlikely. A turbo itself, pushed towards it's upper limit, will often create a whole lot more backpressure than the exhaust downstream of it.

Gotcha!
Then how can we prevent the added back-pressure from the higher psi turbo?

I supposed this explains your incessant need to post in competitors threads.
