Adaptive headlights

Hello guys, I need some help. My headlight was backed up into. Everything works except I got the "adaptive headlamps" error code. I purchased another headlamp on ebay, but I noticed that the one I purchased and the one I originally had a very slight difference.

Old

New

Now you can see that the old one had writing on the left of chrome ring that surrounded the light, but the new one does not. My question is are the same? I opened the back and looked inside, everything is identical. The only difference is the writing shown above. However, after the install, I still have the "adaptive headlamp" error code. Does the car need to be recoded by the dealership?

Thank You and any help is much appreciated.

Take it back to teh dealer...did the headlamps ever have condensation? That could be a reason...

Mine doesn't have the writing on it either.

And I think buying from ebay doesn't really help either lol. How come you didn't go through insurance and replace these headlamps through dealership?

Maybe his deductable was more than the light on ebay. But yeah, take it to the dealer.

Just a reminder, if you're going to take it back to the dealer, put the original back in. If they see the ebay ones (not sure ifyou bought legit oem headlights) they might void your warranty.

Thanks for the input, the headlamp I purchased on ebay is also BMW genuine part. However, it has a different part number, my original part number is 307022638, the new part number is 307022793, and one has the writing on the left and one does not. I plan on going back to the dealership, but I also like to gain some knowledge before I go. We all know some of the horror stories from the dealers.

I would just put the original back in and let them and complain. It's an original part, stock form, so if there's no physical damage on the lights itself, then they will replace it for you. Then, sell the EBAY back out again

I think because adaptive lighting is a regulated by US laws, BMW cannot allow a consumer to reset it manually without a scan tool.

Park your car facing a wall in a garage or outside at night. Turn your wheel hard left or right - you can see them move.

so, i tried it and it's working. Headlights moved to the right when i turned the steering wheel all the way to the right.
did not move to the left.

pathway lighting: turned ignition switch off, pushed down again until there is no radio or anything on. pulled stalk and it's working.

p.s. i did set the time i wanted for pathway lighting on my i drive.
