service light

My service light has just come on but the onboard computer is telling me nothing is wrong/due. However, the car is due its first MOT, could it be the case that the service light is only referring to the MOT?

Most likely, as the service light comes on when the car is due an MOT which needs to be re set.

Does it show two overlapping S's in the symbol above the car? If so, it is indeed referring to MOT.

Yes it does.

Thanks for this, think I will swerve the main dealer in this case and get it done locally

If it's your cars first MOT pop it into the dealer earlier than warranty expiring just in case they pick up any observations which are covered.

Hmmm, so you have to pay for your dealer to disable the service light, even if you choose to have it MOT'd (usually cheaper) elsewhere? Marvellous!

? Of course you can reset it yourself. With idrive you hold the selector down and without it you keep the button on indicator stalk pressed down until it lets you reset it.

Yes, I get that; any indicator can be reset and there are many videos/tutorials to do so.

I just find it a bit off that a warning light and message comes up that you require an MoT and implies that you must take it to a dealer [to do so]. My dealer doesn't even do MoT's, they have them done elsewhere. So as not to clutter up the dealership with other marques (read 10, 15 year old cars) I was once told as they cannot realistically refuse to carry out an MoT if they are a MoT tester.
