What has P3Cars been up to?... The #1 bmw boost gauge is getting a V2 !

Hey guys...

We have been getting a LOT of calls since we dropped the pricing and then stopped taking orders for our 335i boost gauges about 2 months ago... so I wanted to update everyone with why we did that. (if it wasn't obvious)

Well, for the last year we have been working on re-designing the gauge hardware from the ground up... and we are almost done!

We kept all the things everyone loved about the first version and added more!

Here is what we ended up with...

- New 4 digit readout with a better quality tighter bargraph for a cleaner look
- 3 inputs for sensors -- Boost comes with it, but you can also hook up for meth flow, an LC-1 widband, or really any sensor with a 0-5v output, as the inputs are configurable on the gauge
- New dual button setup for easier navigation
- full off disable/lockout mode. Ultimate stealth... no more logo LED's staying lit.

And...

Canbus connectivity!

- Display on the gauge AIT, Coolant temp, Timing, Throttle plate, EGT, RPM w/ shiftlight and a digital speed readout and a performance timer!
- Read and clear EXTENDED BMW CODES right on the gauge! With the new 4 digit display, there is no laptops needed, and no need to figure out complex schemes, the entire ACTUAL code is displayed on the gauge, and multiple codes will cycle through one by one so you can see them all!

SPLIT MODE! - for you meth junkies, force the bargraph to always display meth flow, and put boost or any other value on the digits!

RUN RECORD MODE! - Think of it as an extended peak recall... hold the peak recall button and then the gauge will record the currently display parameter for 15 seconds and allow you to then play it back! Perfect for seeing what your actual boost curves look like without needing to look down at the gauge!

Here's a quick demo video...

Please keep in mind that the software is still in BETA status, so there are more things possible that are not shown here.

Covered in this video are the following:

Display modes on the gauge:
Boost/Vac, AIT, Coolant temp, Timing, Throttle plate, EGT, RPM w/ shiftlight, digital speed readout.

A Demo of the 0-60 timer

Shiftlight demo:
shiftlight set to 3500rpm for the video. Shiftlight works in all modes, or you can disable it.

15 second instant datalog:
record the current value as well as RPM and then play it back. (RPM shown on the bargraph so you can reference what the value is at approx. RPM)

Extended BMW Code read/clear
If your car has one or more codes in the DME, it will display them when you start the car and then proceed to the normal gauge mode after all codes have been displayed. Holding the button at this time will clear the codes.

There is more that is not shown.... but we will cover soon, this includes:
-configuring the shiftlight
-configuring the 2 universal analog inputs (you set the values for 0-5v, as well as the number of decimal points on the gauge)
-meth flow display
-and more...

Here is a quick FAQ...

What is the availability of this product and who is P3Cars?
The gauge is currently shipping… hardware is finilized. P3cars got their start making boost gauges for BMW’s, and have dominated that market with their integrated boost gauge product. Unmatched quality and attention to detail has set them apart in the market and allowed them to quickly rise to be the #1 source for a BMW boost gauge.

How does it read boost/vacuum?

We don't like to give you "sorta boost" or "pre-boost" ... we like to show actual real manifold boost. Boost data can be read directly from the manifold by tapping at the DV's with the included plug and play sensor for N54's... For N55's we will offer reading boost/vac directly off canbus, as the n55 has a sensor on the manifold!

Where does the other data come from?
The gauge connects to the diagnostic port to pull data, serveral connection methods are avaiable for quick plug and play install or for fully integrated install onto canbus wires behind the dash. The gauge also has a total of 3 analog inputs for hooking up other optional sensors.

Does the vent still work?
Yep! Just as before the vent blows air and the open close feature still works.

What features will it have, and will you have updates?

The product will most likely ship with Boost, AIT, Coolant, EGT, Throttle, timing, RPM w/shiftlight, performance timer, and BMW code read/clear. More features will be in development and the gauge software can be upgraded easily, without even taking it out of your car!

What will it cost?

Same as before, $399... with a lower cost "boost only" version for people that just want a boost gauge.

How long is the wait?

We are building them as fast as possible… but some parts are hard to come by, so orders will be shipped first come first serve. We will have the first batch of units ready to ship sometime in January or February.

Is this all the information?
There are a few extra things the gauge is capable of that we are keeping under wraps for a few more weeks until a full demo can be shown, so stay tuned. Follow us on twitter (http://www.twitter.com/p3cars) or check back here for updates.

Damn, I just got a used one like 2 weeks ago. Any chance for a discounted trade in?

give it!

I did notice that your FAQ states that it will not ship with timing view mode. Can you address, since actual CAN Ignition is easily read off the OBD-II port. Will it cause issues working with the PROcede?

Awesome! Will there be an exchange program for those who have the original gauge? What about a reading in "bar" instead of "psi"?

Integration with the procede command centre would be cool. Any chance of that?

Amazing, nice work! (I was the guy on twitter sending you those messages BTW). I'm definitely going to upgrade to this version. Will there be some kind of exchange/discount for current customers?

One more quick question...How are you getting EGT's without a probe?

That's up to vishnu... theoretically its possible let the procede or new jb4 address my gauge over canbus and use it as a secondary display if I put the gauge into a mode where it would monitor for specific canbus data and display it.

Feel free to email shiv/terry etc if there is a real interest for this.

It's simply calculated EGT based on temperature data from the first o2 sensor before the cat... you could add a real probe and use an analog input if you wanted if that isn't good enough for ya.

The data will be skewed by the procede, but for most people they just care to see if there is dips or dropouts.

I hope it happens. I LOVED the map switch feature with the v3r2 and am hopeful that this new gauge may provide something alot more elegant than hijacking the speedo, rpm, fuel and temp gauges.
