Why not petrol too?

PS despite what the coalition clowns say, we haven't emerged from the existing one yet...

Diesel oil demand soars in cold conditions as it is very close to heating oil in it's properties.

But it isn't actually heating oil though, is it? You are saying that diesel is being burned for heating instead of heating oil (kerosene) (which is around 47ppl)?!? Would have thought the impact would have been felt more by airlines, given it's the primary fuel for jet engines?

Gas oil / red diesel is still commonly used for commercial / industrial heating applications although they are starting to up the bio content.

its about time the airlines started paying tax on their fuel, at the moment they gey away with murder while we even have to pay 5% on our heating fuel

No shortage of red diesel here we just bunkered 200 tonnes of the stuff !!

Someone's on the wind up shit stirring as usual, probably someone who owns a franchise for a fuel station!

Diesel prices do go up in winter as the yanks use a lot of heating oil which is similar to diesel.
Anyway fuel is still dirt cheap, it's the crazy UK taxes that screw us.

Don't quite get why people keep justifying the price increase by saying kerosene is similar to diesel. Yes it is, but it's not the same thing. Humans are similar to chimpanzees...

So, diesel goes up because kerosene, a different product, is being used in greater quantities? All fuels go up in winter. That's supply and demand.

According to the FT, China is running short of diesel and won't be back on target until the end of the year. The shortages are reverberating through the global oil market. You know what that means, "supply and demand", the price is climbing...

Also the price we pay could be worse if the dollar/sterling exchange rate wasn't as favourable as it is at present.

Haven't heard there are any refinement bottlenecks at the moment, but that can be another winter problem if demand is high.

Some of you need to look up "cracking towers" and "oil refining!"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_refinery

Just filled up with 1200 litres of heating oil. May have been a bad time to buy a thirsty 2nd diesel car though (in place of a petrol one)!

No-one is saying Kerosene is similar to diesel, they're about as far apart as hydrocarbon liquids get.
Yanks don't use Kerosene as heating oil (as we usto) they use heavy oil, similar to diesel.
No, petrol on average goes down in winter 'cos yanks drive a lot less then.
