Mods, please don't move this to the audio section immediately.
My car is post Sept build and I keep having intermittent connection issues with my iPod (not iPhone). It will be playing fine and then at random intervals will simply disconnect via the 6FL option. Sometimes after this happens the iPod needs to be manually rebooted. Other times it seems to reconnect on it's own after about about a minute. Anyone else having this issue? It can happen several times while I'm driving and I lose my place in the playlist as well as the time within the track that was playing. It's driving me nuts. |

Yep, I've experienced the same symptoms with my iPod nano. I have an October build.

I would try a friends IPOD as a simple step to eliminate the IPOD as the problem but the most likely cause is the so called "Y Cable" that connects your IPOD to the car. They are known to have issues especially if you inadvertantly kink it under the center console lid.

It's not the iPod, my iPod is brand new and works fine. All post 2011 September production cars don't use a Y cable anymore. It now uses the proprietary iPod cable. I did a restore on my iPod but that didn't make any difference.

Just throwing it out there: Haven't had a problem with my 6FL at all. I've used a number of devices on it. iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3rd Gen, iPod Touch 4th Gen, iPod Classic 6th Gen, and iPad 3G. OS versions range from 3.1.2 - 4.2.1 (excluding iPod Classic which doesn't use iOS) on my 2010. Not a single problem. Might be your specific car... might be a good idea to ask the dealer.

My Sept 10 E92 is doing much the same thing now. It happily connects via the the Aux cable in the arm rest but when I click on it in IDrive it disconnects?
Any one found the cause/solution? |

There aren't any updates to 6FL. I actually took my car to the dealer last week. They said they never seen or heard of anyone with this issue and I couldn't duplicate the problem while there. Of course about 5m after driving off it disconnected on me.

It's an iPod classic, it doesn't use any flash memory, it has a HD. I doubt the power for it would be insufficient. BMW makes no mention of the iPod classic as an unapproved device on their site.
The BMW iPod/USB interfaces. Everyone has their favourite driving track or two. And now with the BMW iPod and USB interfaces, you can have a couple of thousand. Simply connect your iPod, iPhone, MP3 player or USB stick to the on-board system and choose your favourite songs from your entire collection. Once your device is plugged in, you can access your music library and control the volume using either the radio, the multifunction steering wheel or the iDrive Controller. Now you can have endless musical enjoyment without being distracted from driving. |

Just found this which shows the iPod classic is a compatible device.
http://www.bmw.com.br/br/pt/owners/n...on_2009_en.pdf I think it's an interface issue that needs to be addressed with a firmware update IMO. |

I am having this issue in my brand new 2012 335is with a 160gb iPod Classic. It mostly freaks out if I turn the car off while the song has been muted. However I have also experienced this while driving mid song.
The Interface gets locked onto a certain song and it doesn't matter how many times I reset the iPod, iDrive decides at its own time when it is ready to start playing music through the iPod again. It will go through this horrific cycle of disconnecting the iPod after choosing a new song and not playing it OR even more frustrating, not loading the artists or any other data from the iPod. I initially believed this largely had something to do with the spinning hard drive of the iPod classic, but if some users are experiencing this with their Solid State iPods (iPhone, Touch, Nano's) than this is a BMW interface issue. My 2009 Audi would require me needing to reset my iPod occasionally but nothing where it basically gets locked onto a specific song in the Menu with no audio or locking the search fields as my BMW does. I really hope BMW addresses this via a software update soon. |

Software Update MX-3.5.4, TX-3.5.4
Christmas came early, there's a software update http://www.bmw.com/update
The documentation however makes no mention of addressing any iPod Classic issues. I've yet to update and test. |

robots_are_neon,
The software update was a big letdown for me. It only updated the telephone part of the firmware but there were no updates for multimedia on my car. Since your car is new I believe you have a later version of combox so the firmware should update both telephone/multimedia in your case. |
