All ready for the snow

Its coming tonight here in Teesside (allegedly!)

So, done today. 2 big bags of gravel from B&Q sat in the boot over the wheels. Rear tyres inflated to full load to balance the weight. 2L bottle of water, chocolate, biscuits, change of clothes, extra fleece & shovel in the boot. Screenwash topped up with winter concentration and full refill bottle in the boot. Phone charger in the car, old car mats and holiday brochures for under the wheels.

Anyone else getting prepped? It'll be my first winter with RWD and I do 5k miles a month normally, so hoping the combination of ballast plus DTC will get me through, and chocolate stash/water will help if I get stuck. Anyone else tried ballast? Did it work?

The gravel ballast will be good for spreading in front of the rear wheels when you get stuck - other than giving you surprise oversteer, I don't think the extra weight will do much else.
I have a pair of chains, but I haven't tried them yet...

Don't forget an empty bottle to piss all that water into after only drinking half of it

How crazy an idea is it to add weight in the back? Obviously if there is snow and ice you don't throw it around bends to get overseer. Having done a few miles in the dry this afternoon with ballast added and higher tyre pressure it handled as it does normally.

A bit of ballast definately helps the grip on the rear end, I used a couple of bags of sand last year... but if there is snow or ice on the roads you will probably be going nowhere (or in a ditch) !

my car lives at the top of our drive with a 500 in front and a 5 series in front of that, so the only car which has a chance of making down our hill in the snow isn't going to climb over a 5 series
If it snows im walking
still at least i chose last weekend to give the paint a few coats of protection before the first snow

Is it me or do those tyres look to be fitted the wrong way around? Shouldn't the V pattern face the other way?

Hooray my winter tyres were great today

The car turns when you turn the steering wheel
The car goes forward when you press the throttle
the car stops when you press the brakes

So thats 100% improvement on last year LOL

It's because it is beside the river Tees (and not the river Tee):

snow covered roads off the estate then ice and slush to the main roads. Also picked a friend up on a slight hill snow covered, drove straight up it.
