Out To Lunch Drivers in Nova Scotia
I have been in NS now for about 12 years after moving from Toronto. I should be used to it now but there seem to be more OTL, befuddled drivers per capita in NS than anywhere else. The typical habits include making a left turn from as far to the right as possible so no one can get around them; puttering along at 90 on 2 lane highways, racing to 110 where there are passing lanes and then slowing back down to 90 when the passing lane ends; speeding up to race a car passing on a 4 lane highway (and usually eventually falling back to their slow pace); and worst of all slowing down and coming to a stop when merging onto a highway. Is it just this province or are there dorks like this elsewhere? NS is a great place to live but some of the drivers make me want to tear my hair out.

Whenever you get used to somewhere, you'll always find bad drivers.
..especially taxis. They seem to be bad in any country you go to. It's like a universal constant. |

I'm sure Toronto is now much worse than when you left here 12 years ago. I've definitely noticed an increasing number of bad drivers over the years.

I see a lot of people hug the left side of their lane when making a left turn. Combined with starting the turn way to early, they end up crossing over into their own oncoming lane and are unable to turn in properly to the lane on the new road, so they end up making this long, shallow turn that puts them in the lane to the right of where they're supposed to be. I've also seen a lot of people manage to cross over the median lines on both the turn-in and turn-out roads when making a left turn; how they do that still kind of baffles me. |

Actually I drive in Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto all the time. There are certainly some reckless drivers there but actually I would say they are generally less obnoxious than the ones here in NS. One time some guy sat frozen at a flashing red light even though there was no intersecting traffic. A cop who had stopped behind him had to get out and tell him to move. Another time some guy came to a complete halt at a flashing yellow.
