so i bought v1 radar detector few weeks ago. i then used it almost everyday.
last weekend i went on a mid-range trip to Michigan, about 850miles. i was doing around 85 (speed limit 70) and was caught by police TWICE. there were heck a lot of police on my way but my radar detector did not detect those polices. i goes off like a mad dog when i come up on a crossing with traffic lights but it does not tell me when police is near. not so useful. is this normal? i use it on A mode. if this is not normal then please tell me how your V1 behaves and whether i can get it fixed or not. thanks!

yeah. the first time i got away with verbal warning. on my way back to ny i got caught and it says radar. the thing is, the detector just did not go off at all. i was going with a 85 speed cruise set. then next thing i know, a police is on my tail. i'm really bummed by this...

Are all your bands on the V1 turned on? I'm assuming if hes using radar which is probably Ka band since he was moving when he got you. If he was parked, he could be using LIDAR which is 99.9% guaranteed a ticket if you are hit without any jammers.

Is the volume on? I know dumb question but just want to be sure.

I would ask the cop to show you the trap speed on their equipment.

If it says radar on the ticket and the v1 didn't go off it's hard to believe... unless it's lidar as others indicated.

i thought my brothers 9500 sucked ass but the damn thing was on mute for days haha. stupid escort settings. I only rock my v1 and i dont even speed really maybe 5 above city and highway 10-15

the sound was on, all the settings are all correct. it goes off sometimes but maybe like 1 out of 5 cops. it said radar... i have no idea why it didn't go off....

If it was not LIDAR, send it back to the factory and have them test the calibration. I have 4 V-1 detectors that catch all the Ka Band used by most LEA but LIDAR almost never goes off.

You may have to send it back to the factory for repair. I have two V1's. The older of the two has never had a probelm. I've had to send the newer one back for repair twice. Both times it stopped detecting one of the radar bands (K band I think).

Radar detectors aren't cop detectors. Not all police cars run radar. Some run radar but they are not turned on to provide stealth to radar detectors. He could have paced you or hit you with instant on radar and no matter how good your radar detector is, you are screwed. As for instant on, the V1 should have detected it, but I'm not sure why it didn't go off. Quick trigger is also another possibility but again, the V1 is good, but not 100% at detecting those.

+1 above. You need to be vigilant. Also, try L (full logic) mode.
