Just wondering is the scriocco to the golf gti like the E92 is to the E90?

A bit off-topic, but just wondering about vw's scriocco. It's chassis and powertrain is basically the same as the golf, except it's two doors (well I guess technically it's still a hatchback, but its a more coupe-like hatchback to the golf). Is it the same as the E92 to the E90, which shares the same chassis except one being lighter, longer and with two doors plus with more sexy sheet metal?

If the performance difference between the gti and the scriocco is pretty minor (if any), then the only reason to get a scriocco is to get a more sexy coupe-like gti, correct? That's not necessarily a bad reason, I would'nt mind driving in a more stylish, if less practical car. But just wondering how much really seperates a golf and a scriocco.

it drives better than the GTI imo, cornering is so much better becus of the low gravity and widen track, i could enter a corner at the same speed with a stock scirocco vs my ex gti with pss10

although same chassis and engine, it behaves very differently! go test drive

I'm planning to go for a test-drive, I might get a bargain for it if I trade in my 325i and get that scirocco. On second thought, nah. I'm more of a bimmer fan. I'll probably go for a 335i then a scirocco. Straight-six engine and rear-wheel drive is the best. Still, the scirocco is tempting...I'll probably check it out for a test drive and report how it went here.

2 different cars between Scirocco 2.0T/ R and 335i. You wouldn't go wrong with either or both.

I remember Scirocco equipped with the magnetic suspension and GTI doesn't; GTI comes with Electronic Differential Lock which not available in Scirocco, this is what I was told when I bought my GTI last yr.

Perhaps, you should wait till a few months more for the Scirocco R to be launched.....that one should be a beast......

Haha maybe I should. Have to check out the price first, I wonder how much it will cost?

Yeah I know the 335i and the scriocco are 2 different type of cars, but I've always enjoy the smooth acceleration of a straight-six bimmer the most.

Still, I do like the gti and this scirocco is quite tempting, hehehe.

Thanks for the info. Seems like a bargain compare to the almost half a million price for a higher-end 3 series. Of course, those are different cars in different segment.

The R sure looks sweet, although I'm not sure if I will go for that, nowhere in HK where you can really hit the gas. And I'm not really a street racer, it's too dangerous and I don't want to get arrested. And I certainly don't drive like that red corolla guy who ended up dead on Lung Cheung Road (well actually I do enjoy driving fast and well beyond the speed limit on occasion, but only in safe places without traffic or pedestrian-and I don't race with other cars, I just drive fast on my own), so I might just go for the regular scirocco.

Still, the R is so tempting, hehehe.

if you are going to get the 2.0T, which is 316k, i will highly recommend you get the R

what you get for 70k difference

Bodykit - costs 30k
Bigger rims + tires
Bigger brakes
Bigger intercooler
Better suspension + lowered (by a bit but better than nothing)
Better exhaust
much faster / tunable engine with big turbos and strengthen internals - easily 280-300hp with a chip!

just to mod the engine to that big turbo costs around the same already!!!

anyways, its weird how you are considering the 335i then if you think you dont drive fast

I wonder how fast the Scirocco R can go with a 300hp engine, hmmm.

I don't think I drive fast, but others think I do, haha. I like to hit the gas when the opportunity present itself, just have to be the right time and place. I'm just not into street racing and aggressive or inconsiderate driving. I don't "showboat" or "show off", I just want to drive fast responsibly and also be courteous on the road. I want to keep my license, you see, hehe.

you get 4wd + recaro seats + 10hp more

its actually a better buy than the scirocco R as only 40k difference! the seat alone costs 30k, the 4wd which is not modable

For price Vs added option's point of view, the Golf R is a better buy whilst, I personally think Scirocco is more eye catching then Golf especially there are many Golf GTI on the road when most people cannot tell the difference between GTI and R by a glance look.....just my 02 cents while I'm more of a image oriented guy....shame on me, got to blame my parents genes, god damn it!!

Haha, no problem being an image guy, so long as you have the driving skills to match your looks, hehehe.

The same with cars, sexy and cool designs is what grab people's attention. Coupled that with a superb chassis with real performance and handling abilities, and that translate into sales!

Hehehe, of course the key is to have image and ability. So when those people check out your cool ride and your handsome looks, they will ask "Lei yao moi lew dao?" and you can wasted them with your handling prowness, haha. . I have no worries, you've got the driving ability.

The problem comes when some people have the looks but has "moi lew". Like those "ysj", one of the Fok's playboy sons for example, who crash his E92 coupe. If he dosen't have the ability to execute some killer move, he should'nt be messing around on the road, haha...but he just has to look "cool".

Tks for yr compliment Bro...However, I realized my max. limit which is the golden rule to handle the ride!! As of the alignment shop told me, 9 out of 10 customers asked for 0 Toe, Front/Rear came back within a week to adjust back to factory setting and I've been overcome this demanding driver setting for 2 months which love the setting very much....The odds are that, the allignment shop stopped to recommend setting for customer due to such experiences w/ un-educated drivers, it is a pity in our society while $$ doesn't link w/ his/her knowledges..Thus, I'm now educating my 8 yrs old son little by little of mechanic theory....if there is driving school in HK, I'll definitely get him an entry to spend a few yrs studying and carting....., that's how Louis Hamilton paced to the F1 career since he was UK Junior Cart champion when he was a kid....his father put him inside the cart when he just know how to walk....

the s5 certainly looks good but i feel that it is not responsive enough..lazy v8 -_-' but great interior, great look and attraction from the street! what more can you ask for

i am looking for a new target to change the s5 though lets see how the next 3 series look
