NO ALARM??
took my car in today for the alarm instal. i am being given the ring-around.
my SA is telling me my car does not have the alarm pre-wiring.... they are saying that if they find tomorrow that it is in fact not there... it will be a 9 hour labor instal if in fact the car was not wired from germany. the whole headliner would need to be dropped, etc... FU*K THAT! i am not letting them drop the headliner. i know my car will never be put back together right... so tomorrow we will see if germany forgot to put in all the pre-wiring, or if it was just the proximity sensor they forgot everything. i am hoping for the best, but thinking the worst. who has had the alarm successfully installed in an E92??

I installed the alarm myself. It was pre-wired. If you look under the hood you should see some wire running along the plastic board under the very top part of the hood (top as in top edge under windsheild wiper). At the end of this wire is a plastic plug, that is an idication of the pre-wire.
this is a picture of what I was trying to describe: taken from this thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1487 |

I wonder if they are just trying to hit you up for a big labor charge...

My BS - o - meter is riging too, I don't think you can order one without pre-wiring. Or if it's not there, may of been a manufacturing defect, and you should't be responsible for paying for it either.

Wow thats a steal, might it be possible to PM me with where/how you got it done? BMW Autohaus wants something like $900 for the alarm including install.

okay so i talked to my advisor today. they handed the job over to the shop forman. the proximity sensor cable was taped on the roof just above the rear window. they pulled off the dome light and fished it through with out dropping the headliner. so the alarm is in, and i am picking it up this afternoon!
also... i told them that in my 06 E90w/ CA the mirrors would fold in when i held down on the ridges... and now the E92 doesent. They programed the system through the OBD, and now it does it! so now i am happy.

I hope they did not charge you man power to fish the line out of the roof liner. That is bmw fault so it should not be included in the labor to fish it out. Labor should only be for installing and programming the alarm

i am not being charged for anything. the alarm was thrown in for getting almost no discount on the car...
labor was paid for under warranty. the wiring was found, just farther back than normal, so BMW did infact wire it correctly.
