Is there an official recall on the fuel pump?

I've got an 07 completely stock that is going in to limp mode some times. Couple of long cranks as well. Dealership says its injectors. I asked them about the fuel pump and they wont replace it unless they think that is the issue.

There is certain protocol they need to follow when replacing parts. Just let them do their thing. If they replace the injectors and finding the car still having an issue they should dig further and find the plugs, coils or pump has the problem.

Quick question regarding the extended warranty on the HFPF (in case the N55 really does end up having as widespread a problem - my guess is yes it will).

Because only the HFPF is covered, will the injector/coil/plug replacement come out of pocket during the steps taken before the HFPF is finally found to be defective after the original 4yr/50,000mi warranty is up?

Sounds like all of that could add up...

depending on your circumstances -- yes it could add up after the original limited warrnty is expired.

but some of the parts youve listed may or may not have emission related coverage -- it depends on whether its a Fed (49 state) or California car.

there is a section that lists out the emission related part coverage in your owners manual -- chk out your states compliance requirements

I wonder what the process is if your out of warranty and you want an independent shop to replace the HPFP because you cant get the car to a dealer?

It is, but since the N54 and N55 share the same fuel pump, it might eventually extend to it as well. There are already documented cases of members here that have N55s with the problem.

to be fair, I am hearing less and less of these HPFP failures with every passing day. Small steps, but definitely getting better. As I stated before, it seems a car will either have multiple HPFP failures or at most one.

I don't think the important thing is the failure rate per car, it is the multiple failure rate. How many cars have had 3 or more HPFP replacements? That number should drop to around 2-3%.

I am on my 3rd. The newest one has better internal sealing or something...so far its been good.

agreed, there is a firm in cali that is pursuing the hpfp class action lawsuit now last I heard.
