Procede serial to usb cable...
Does any Serial to USB cable work? I need to buy one today, and was wondering if I should look for something in specific. I'll be running it on a macbook.
Thanks |

i use a cheapo monoprice.com one and mine works great. i think the one they recommend is the one from radioshack but i'm cheap and didn't want to shell out $30 for a cable i could get online for $6...

RadioShack is a rip-off.
If you can wait for shipping (example: PROCede on the way) then I would get the Keyspan. I love Monoprice, but when it comes with seral to USB converters you need to be careful with the model you pick. One specifically will fail in the middle of a PROCede update and temporarily brick it. More details in this thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=130 Good luck, -Walter

IMO, the best USB to Serial adapter is the Keyspan USA-19HS. I have used it with many industrial control systems (AB, Modicon, Siemens, GE, etc. PLC's) and has never had one issue. In other words, no issues with the PROcede at any point over the last three years one has been attached to it.

I've been using the one from monoprice.com (PID: 2067, the one mentioned in the thread as "bricking a PROcede") and it's been working perfectly fine since day one on Windows 7. You just need to download the proper driver for it (and it's not the one Window will lead you to believe should be installed).
The specific file you want is "PL2303_Prolific_GPS_1013_20090319.exe" and if anyone happens to need it I can make it available, just let me know.

Thanks for all the info guys! I went ahead and ordered the one from monoprice. I have a win7 laptop too, so I'll use that with the driver file recommended (got it from a google search)
