Why don't we discuss something less controversial, like abortion.
Clarkson loved the M6 vert, and the CSL review he did was almost pornographic in describing how much he loved it. He actually liked the 335i coupe overall, but he hated the looks. |

I like Clarkson. Yes, he's way over critical to anything that's not British, but in a way we're all that way to one degree or another.

Jezza's hilarious; but don't take him seriously. He hates some cars just because Tiff likes them on Fifth Gear. I enjoy the fact that he dares to be un-PC in the UK...

Clarkson reminds me of EVERY car nut I know. Everyone has passionate reactions to different cars when you reach Clarkson's level of virtuosity on the subject. Think about music snobs (like me, sadly)... and their view on top-40 music. To the average music listener, it's sounds like biased nit-picking, but to the enthusiast, the claims they make are very grounded in their passionate study of the subject. Clarkson compares every car he reviews to his ideal car. He'd advise my mom to get an Ariel Atom 300 over her Volvo without reservation, and when he reviews a 335i, he's comparing it to a TVR Sagaris or the like. I admire his frankeness, as mad is at comes off when you're used to banal Autoweek-style objectivity, but to me it makes total sense and is very refreshing in contrast to every other car-review show. I'd never buy a daily driver based on JC's recommendation, but I really don't buy any car based on anybody's recommendation. It's great TV, and JC's the Lester Bangs of auto journos.

There is one story about a drunken evening with the previous top gear team (Clarkson, Tiff Needel and Quentin Wilson), which explans a lot about the way Clarkson thinks. Tiff announced that he was going to get an M5, which the others found ridiculous. What became clear is that Clarkson was more interested in the noise a car makes and the way it felt, than it's handling and speed. He would rather waste time doing dirty great power slides than take the perfect racing line. I like Tiff's thinking - he want's the car with the best point to point speed. Simple as that. Jessa doesn't get on with BMW's because he doesn't consider their main focus - handling and drivetrain - to be the key to a good car. |

^^ Well said
A Documentary on Top Gear (1997) of the M1, M3, M5 and CSL with Tiff Needell shows Tiff hitting the "face" of Jeremy in the end. |

very straight forward and seems unbiased to any cars (probably because he drove almost every single "nice" cars out there) worth watching every episode. |

he certainly isn't afraid to say what he thinks outside of the competitions which is why top gear is so fun to watch. if the car sucks, then he says it sucks. but if it rocks, then you get a good review. honesty

Last nights episode was hilarious - they buy 3 bangers in America and drive 'em around. I won't spoil it.
