Procede v5 Owners Manual and CAN DME Code lists - Updated 12/27/10
There is a lot of fragmented information on exactly how the features of the Procede work and how to set the parameters in the desktop software. I created this public Google Document in hope that we can consolidate all this information into one place... Click the link below to view and edit the document.

Note, the n55 CAN DME Code list is currently being populated, please check back for updates. EDIT 12/12/10: I reorganized the document and outputted it as a PDF, there is still some information missing, but I have decided to make it editable by only a few people to keep the information in the document accurate and protect things from being deleted. If you have suggestions or information that should be changed post it in the thread and the people that have access will edit it. Every once in a while I will update the PDF to reflect the most recent revision, however if you want to get the newest PDF you can download it from the file menu of the google doc. (File>Download as>*select format*) Alex.

^ I just fixed that by pulling one of the older versions up. Someone apparently felt it was necessary to delete random info. Sabotage? :shifty
On another note, I might have been a massive clot and accidentally locked the document for everyone except azwillnj and BrianMN... Can we have the document set to be readable for all, but only editable for people who request access?

Now what if the format was changed for easy referencing like a regular manual. (i.e, having a chapter 1 and pages, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc.)
Just break it down as follows. Chapter 1 - Install Chapter 2 - Uploading Maps/Firmware Chapter 3 - Using the PDE Reader/Data Logging (Data Logging is not explained much and what each of the categories specify) Chapter 4 - Changing Procede settings Chapter 5 - Removal and Code Clearing/Reading Chapter 6 - Trouble Shooting. Or something along those lines above. |

Good job so far man!!
But if someone can breakout some data logging procedure/results and what good and bad graphs look like and what signs would indicate engine issues, that is needed for part of trouble shooting. It's just that so many people post data logs on here because they dont know exactly what to look for. (Im one of those people but I'd like to learn more about data logging results.) I will add the list of all the Log readout channels and a list of the channels we should log to have useful data. That should be up by tomorrow, maybe tonight still.

In the v5 software, all of the important logging channels are labeled now, instead of Debug Words/Bytes.
Alex-Can you add a section about the common logging choices. -RPM -Boost -CAN Actual Ign. Advance -Ignition Correction -IAT -PID Duty cycle Most of the other ones can be used to determine specific problems, such as fuel pressure, boost leaks, etc. |

traction control
I suggest a separate chapter on traction control. Here is a description based on posts here
Procede traction/launch control (TC) is Spark Retard-based and does not adjust brake force or brake distribution. It drops engine torque through ignition advance adjustments when it detects power-induced wheel spin. The degree of TC intervention is dependent upon the severity/duration of the wheel spin event. It is not a stability control system. It is just a way to help power get down to the ground when your gas pedal goes into the carpet. It will work with factory traction/stability control (DSC/DTC) on or off. It works independently of DSC/DTC. With TC on, the factory DSC/DTC will need to intervene less during acceleration. TC reacts faster than DSC/DTC and will recover faster when traction is restored. You can turn it off/on depending on map, you can also dial in the sensitivity of the traction control (0-100%) depending on map. 100% disables TC and 0% is maximum TC. For non-xi/x-drive cars 30-50% is suggested. For xi/x-drive cars it is suggested to leave this feature off (100%). There is no harm in a lower setting either since TC should rarely intervene. Don't expect the Procede's TC system to manage wheel spin in snowy/icy conditions. It can only reduce engine output by maybe 150whp. So going from 400hp to ~250hp is still enough to spin the tires on snow/ice. The only way to stop wheel spin in such situations is through brake application (which the standard BMW DSC/DTC system does). So it's best if you leave DSC/DTC on and let the TC work in conjunction with it. It is suggested to press the DTC button once so that the DME allows some degree of wheel spin before intervening. This works well with the Procede's TC. As does running with the factory system completely off (DTC button pressed and held for a few seconds). Of course, do this at your own discretion and only if you feel comfortable with it. There will be a manual over-ride to disable the launch control feature for those times you need to do a burn-out (to be confirmed) |
