Boston tire questions
Hey everyone,
xtreme328 told me to chime in on this region of the forums since i'm going to be moving to Boston in January. I currently live in CA and I have an e90 335 (rwd & currently on the run flats) I know I MUST get some new tires before I ship out the car to MA but I was wondering if I could get some input from you guys before I make a purchase. My question is should I get some all season tires or should I just get snow tires installed and dismount them come spring? Most of my driving will be done local around somerville but I'm sure I will take trips out to the malls @ burlington & over @ braintree. I will be doing very little driving in the snow but I have no clue how bad the road conditions get over there so please let me know. Thanks guys. |

Get snow tires for sure. I'd recommend a wheel tire package. The salt will do a number on your current wheels. The ability to do the swap yourself will save you money in the long run.
For tires I'd go with blizzak ws. You will need the snow and ice traction especially with the rwd. Welcome to Boston! |

Thanks for the reply.
I def would prefer to get another set specifically for winter but sadly I will be living in an apartment where the only storage is a shared basement with another apartment. Not too sure if its a good idea to leave my stocks there incase they disappear come spring I've been looking into the Blizzak's, the Dunlop 3d's and Falkens EurowinterHS439. Does anyone have any experience with the falkens? |

No experience with Falkens, but I second the Bridgestone Blizzaks recommendation if you have the space to store a dedicated winter set. There is no better winter tire, period.
FWIW: "All" seasons should say "Most" seasons. Winter is not included... |

^ thanks for the input sir,
another quick question, There seems to be a lot of Blizzak LM __ model series, is there a specific model I should go after? I'm worried about how the tire will hold up when there is no rain or snow but its a fairly nice "winter day". |

I believe if you purchase your tires from Town Fair Tire here they will change your tires out at the end of winter and store them for you as long as you purchase your tires from them. I would contact one of them here to confirm.

I know that Direct Tire (at least here in Watertown) can store your winter or summer set for $80 a season if you buy tires from them.

i agree - get a full set and switch them yourself. many tire shops, dealers, etc will store your tires for reasonable prices.
i have a set that might be for sale if i don't sell them with my car. they're style 164 w/conti winter tires...

Dont think twice about getting different Snow wheel-tire package. Like many already said, lot of shops do storage and for cheap with additional benefits.
I used to store but now both my sets are non run flats so I have 3 in my garage and 1 in trunk for safety also helps in weight. I have some sand bags as well. I have WS 60 and if there is anything latest then you should get that.

Thanks for all the input guys, looks like there is a great cat community out there and I look forward to being apart of it!
My car will arrive in Boston end of Jan/early feb, should I play it safe and get snow tires mounted out here in Cali first before shipping the car? The shop everyone is recommending seems awesome but I'm worried I won't even be able to drive out there on my current tires by the time the car arrives. Thanks for all the input again! |

Somerville has some good sized hills, definitely want winters on a rwd.
I believe the LM60s will be the better compromise with dry road handling compared to the WS line if that's of concern. |
