What lights on a pre-lci?

Hi, my halogens look quite dated compared to some other options out there with mods to lci and the innovations package, wondering what's the best go..replace the headlights to lci or change bulbs? If bulbs to which bulbs? I especially like the bright daylight blue, what do I need for that?
Offcourse there is the route of changing to the Xenons which are the holy grail of lights for now, well besides LEDs maybe..but thats too much trouble and expense, anyone looking at changing theirs and knows an easy way to achieve this? Here's a nice link with comparisons

my thoughts as per other message.

Change to LCI Halogen headlight unit. Then change that bulb to an HID one if you want 'brighter bluer' light. The LCI halogen unit has the Angel Eye feature as its parking light function. It's not as well defined though because the light for the AEs also bounces around in the mirrors for the main high/low beams. They're also not as bright as LCI AEs and do not have a well defined bright DRL setting to really show them off.

For Pre-LCI cars with halogen headlight units I don't think there are any Angel Eye options out there. I've heard of DEPO projectors for halogens, which might be another solution, but I don't really know much about them. Something to consider - if buying headlight units, be sure they will be okay for Australian roads, rules + regulations etc...

Thats basically HID bulbs in halogen set up. It is important to note that there are a couple of light set ups. There are reflectors and projectros.

Reflector - normal halogen set up seen in most cars with the mirror used to distribute light. You can replace the halogen bulbs in a reflector set up to HID/xenon bulbs, but it's not the same as having xenon bulbs in a projector set up. The reflector set up isn't quite as clean looking and often you spread light into unwanted areas often blinding people.

Projection set ups use a lens to focus the light that is going out. Projector set ups also come in both halogen or HID/xenon lights.

Another minor point and possibly slightly OT is that BMW uses bi-xenon systems. This means that the same bulb is used for both low AND highbeam settings. In fact, IIRC the light is always on highbeam but a shutter blocks off the excess light. There are also xenon set ups which only have one setting as low beam. The bulb only shines at lowbeam brightness and uses regular bright halogen lights when highbeams are activated. (no shutter to block off light in lowbeam use)

I didn't actually order them until I saw them on Ninja's car.
Cruvon and I liked them as they were very white.

That's correct, in bi-xenons there is a shutter that goes down when highbeam is activated. It's an ADR rule for cars to have bi-xenons these days.
Some older cars are allowed 'single' xenon setups, such as my gf's Evo 8 with xenons for low, halogens for high beam.

Nathaniel is dragging his feet! I saw some pics on FB but they were of jap cars... (cool R34 GTR on there though)

When's the next BMW meet? Dec 27 or 28 I reckon - most people should be off work, it'll be the last meet for the year, we can grab food and in the spirit of christmas we'll make it a swap meet!

Note that there are a number of problems with just putting a HID bulb in what was a halogen reflector enclosure, the main one being you can make your car unroadworthy.

HID in a halogen encolosure can sometimes work but can sometimes also spray light everywhere including into the eyes of oncoming drivers which can get you a defect notice if you come to police attention, on top of the irritation caused to other drivers.

Changing to HIDs requires you to install a projector, self-leveling unit and headlight washers to be fully ADR compliant. Obviously the latter two are literally impossible to comply with, but they are hardly able to be checked.

If you want a cheap option to turn your headlights into a very nice white/blue, then go for Phillips CrystalVision halogen bulbs. They just go straight into your existing lights. Looks the goods, but does not offer any illumination benefit compared to stock yellows.

Haven't read the reviews though so hopefully they are good.

Thanks for your responses guys.....I have been looking at a set of lci lights plus lux lights available here from this forum member who's parting out

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=464504

What are your thoughts and what would be a good price to offer for the combo?

I also heard from http://www.jlevistreetwerks.com/p71/...duct_info.html for the LED's(are LED's better than Xenons), this is what was offered. If go this route what else would I need or is everything included including HID's?

Projector Headlight Set - OE Style LED Turn Signals [D44-1103P-NDBM2] $440
United States Postal Service (Priority Mail International (6 - 10 business days)) $128.15

Offcourse then there are the other options that you'll mentioned here

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/XENON-HID-KIT...ht_8703wt_1141

and

the Philips Crystalvision which would save me having to keep a whole lot of the original spare headlights and wasting them or getting rid of them at throwaway prices. The Philips Crystalvisions have a whole lot of options, which is the most popular (4300K?)
http://suvlights.com/product_info.ph...d175a2f8985b25
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=CrystalVision

Too many choices

Thanks

Cruvon, you should have posted this thread before I made the order!!

I really like the Projector Headlight Set with LED Turn Signals and angel eyes. They're also not that expensive.

Have you made up your mind about which way to go?

By the way, I got the trunk and roof spoilers yesterday. They look great.

yupz, they look like a really good set with it all and reasonably priced too. Just wondering if I would get any errors if I installed them. Still thinking. Will see how the lights you ordered look.

Great you got your trunk and roof spoilers, post pictures of them installed

If you get an error after installing them, you can get the error canceler for $40 from the same supplier.

Let me know before you order.

I will post some pics soon.

If you order the headlight assembly from the US, isn't it a problem to have them shining across the road into oncoming traffic? I thought headlights were designed differently for LHD vs RHD applications.

I think they are selling Euro versions in the US that can be modded so might be all RHD

For LHD in the US I think they have to add in this to the kit

The Projector90 Headlights use a European Spec Bulb Socket. For US Spec cars, you will need to purchase TWO (2) of these bulb sockets, either from us or from your local BMW Dealership. You may use the part number above to order locally if you prefer.

cool, would you be interested in a set? Does the bumper need to be removed to install the headlights?

he says

So total=568 for the set with shipping

but for 2 units he should give us a discount and we could share shipping..Is it USPS or UPS that's cheaper shipping?

Offcourse the other option is we both buy only one set and see how it works on one car, if we are not happy and keeps giving errors we can cut our losses and junk it.
