New I-drive interface compatible with pre-lci?
Just turned the loaner back in and got my 07 back . But I love the new I-drive interface, can the older i-drive OS be updated to the newer OS? I'm quite versed in the IT world and I don't really see why it shouldn't be able to be done. It's just software, now whether the systems that run the software are different or not is a different story. Just wanted to know if anyone had any information about this....thanks

New iDrive = "CIC" Old = DVD Based New = HDD Based Old = Std. Res Screen New= High Res Screen w/ full map view The dvd based iDrives have no internal storage to hold software. You can do a full swap and get it coded to your car, but you'll have to pull it out and put in the old one if the dealer needs to do software updates on your system. i did the full non-idrive to cic idrive retrofit and i love it
don't think you would be able to do it via software ... the new software looks for the hard drive and too many components that werent present on the old system

I believe it's about $2300 US; look in the vendor audio/electronics forum, patrys does it and I think everyone who used him is 100% happy!

rivision there is a new vendor BMW retrofit and their cost is significantly less than that of Patrys and they are great guys ... I used them for my coding
I pieced my system together and coming form an non-idrive vehicle to retrofitting the whole system it only cost me $3k and most of that was dash components other than the new system of course you can even retain your old controller to save some money with the new system
