Want DME Software Update--- Advise

So my warranty is going to end in January and I am planning on getting catless downpipes then. However my car is a early 2007 build E92 335i and never received any software updates since. I want to use the CANclear feature instead of the O2 modifier on procede and want to get a software update from my dealer.

I have an appointment on Monday for an oil leak and want to some how convince the dealer to give me a software update and wastegate retrofit. Do you guys have any advise for convincing them; I have no real problems that would really warrant it.

Thanks in advance and if anyone is planning on saying this is the wrong thing to do, every one has their own opinion but please keep that to your self.

Tell them you know this guy called "the ICE Man" because he is into big industrial refridgerators, but his real specialty is making 2 legged creatures dissappear.

I have also one of the older software 27.xx. While others may say the newer software does not neuter the car, IMO I would not change out the software version you have because IMO it's the best one yet before they started fiddling with software to fix the inherent wastegate rattle

If you have a non-iDrive car, I would say "my stereo cuts out occasionally and its really annoying". That's a surefire way of getting the software updated.

As part of the recall on the fuel pump they will update the software, just complain of long cold cranks.

Also the new software with the wastagate conversion doesn't bring the WG DC back to the original behavior on the car (see here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=414605) but since you are going to use a procede this is a non-issue.

Good luck.

I agree with you. Even though I have been updated a few times my tuner has the software discs and I just reverse back to the original version I had.

DON'T UPDATE the program.

old 07 version is the best, I have compared both side by side and there is a night/day difference!!!!

and the old program version works well with the o2 modifier (or O2 sim)
only the newest versions have trouble with o2 syms because the DME uses the cat monitoring o2 sensors for A/F fuelling.

the old version don't

If you really want the new software make up some symptoms that mimic cold start or stumbling. Really push the issue....

LOL at the "Ice Man" reference.....thank God that guys dead now....

macaroni118, is there anyway to get the 07 software re-downloaded outside of the dealer. With the problems I've had, they have downloaded the new software TWICE on my 07 335.

Is there really that big of a difference between the old and new version with the procede installed. Seeing as it remaps all the performance oriented aspects, will there be the "lag" associated with the new one?

It seems that some tuners, including GIAC can do that but they want sell theyr tune, not only revert to old version

Yes the old version is really a LOT better then the new one. I drive a e92 25.1 and an e93 36.1, the E93 sucks in comparison.

I don't know if procede can completely fix this.

Can you elaborate on the difference between the two. I am getting convinced to not even bring it up to the dealer if this is the case. Do you have a tune on your E93 or E92?

Will you notice a difference between pre 09/2007 software versions and the current version WITHOUT the wastegate conversion...YES.

Will you notice a difference betweein the pre 09/2007 software versions and the current version WITH the wastgate conversion...Questionable. If you drive them back to back yes you may notice.

However, if you are running the procede then all this is moot because the procede controls boost and wastgate DC completely independently of the DME so the BMW DME software version is completely irrevelant.

So if I were you, (and this is the situation I am in due to wastgate rattle and it was part of the process of getting new turbos) I would get the new software WITH the wastgate conversion and then install the procede and don't worry about it. Plus they will most likely update the software due to the HPFP recall.

I know the most about the Procede b/c I have one. Having said that I believe the new JB4 will have an isolated PID based boost control like the procede but I am not completely sure how the JB3 does this.

As far as the DME software I think that with any tune (piggyback or flash) it is to some extent irrelivant what the factory DME software wastegate DC tables are b/c they are either replace, bypassed, or modified to provide higher performance.

I drove my parents e92 over thanksgiving it's 2007stock. I was thinking damn it's slower than normal meaning turbo lag increase. just not aggressive revving. they told me they replaced the hpfp and new software. before I used to think , damn this thing is strong. it felt stronger than my car when it was stock and mines an 09. I wouldn't change it.

my e93 and e92 are stock, no tune

the E93 has 36.1 with turbo lag retrofit activated yes the wategates are closed at idle

The E92 is original 25.1 but with new turbos

the E92 has crisp instant responsive throttle, like an M3 a real pleasure to drive
The E93 has feels slow, it seems there is an "elastic" between the throttle and the engine: you press a bit and nothing, you press half away and then it starts going, you must rev over 2500 to go, it is completely irresponsive

I updated mine with the latest (had 27) and love how the car goes now. Especially the AT is much smoother now.
