Hi,
I graduated motorcycle mechainc's institute. I am in CT but want to offer some advice. Make sure they do a compression test followed up by a leakdown test , there should not be more than 10 percent and compression should be 170-200 psi , the important thing is there not be more than 10 percent difference between the four cylinders. For ex. cyl 1 170 , cyl 2 170 , cyl 3 180 , cyl 4 190. number 4 cyllinder would be right in the cusp of being 10 percent. These bikes build up carbon on the valves all the time and run out of adjustment , so if you get varying readings, do not panic until the vavles are checked to be in adjustment and the valves are chhecked for carbon. If there is carbon sometimes you can get away with misting spray water through the throttle boddies at idle to clear it out.You may use up several sets of sparkplugs but it will be worth it. The last resort for carbon on valves is disassembly and lapping the valves to the seats.More than likely if the bike has been taken care of you wont have to deal with any of this , just the compression test to verify everything is good. Make sure the bile shifts through all the gears under full throttle and doesnotpop out of gear.Check the wheels for bends and smooth rotetion.Make sure the bile does not pullto one side. Makesurethere are no cracks in the frame , lookfor cracked paint or white marks.Make sure the battery reads 13.5 - 25 volts dc at the terminalsat 1k rpm.Check the drain plug for leaks or drips , thjis woul indicate stripped threads or overtightening.Look for antifreese anywhere , verify waterpump ,radiator ,and expansion tank do not leak coolant.Look at the side covers for abrasion and the lever ends ,and handlebar ends , this woul indicate a tip over-crash.All of the bodywork-plastic is in prsine condition , this stuff is very expensive to replace. |

oh wow that is way to excessive! i bet that bike has less then 10k on the odometer. you just need a full service, plugs, oil, air-filter, antifreeze, brake fluid, and lube the cables. crash wise depends on the extent of the accident. but it doesnt sound like a bad one. pics would help
