HID fog lights - flickering when engine is running (why?)
i helped a friend of mine install a no-name HID kit he bought off ebay into the fog lights of his 2007 335 coupe. it worked fine with the engine off. it did set an error in the OBC, but the error went away after a few seconds. however, when we started the car, the fogs started to flicker like crazy - they almost looked like strobe lights. after about 30 secs of flickering, the right side fog light went off and never turned back on.
![]() i've searched and the consensus seems to be that mtec has the only kit that works with E90/92's. does anyone know why the cheap HID kit we installed on flickers when the car is running? i searched, but couldn't seem to find the answer. TIA this is the kit we tried to install: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=180077178660 Last edited by drossel; 02-09-2007 at 08:42 PM.. |

u need a resistor. the stock lights run much higher than the hid ballasts. i think the hid bulbs are 35 watts and the oe bulbs are 55 watt. u need to equal out the volatge.

would you need a resistor with the mtec kit?
also, i don't understand why using a relay to draw power from another 12V source instead of the fog light circuit would eliminate the flickering. it's still a 12V source either way, no? unless the power for the fogs is being fed by a module (GM)? but that doesn't really make sense because they're just fog lights. |
